An uncompressed Philip Glass score. I'm all over this.

I don't know about this title. The idea of looking at a barren red landscape for over one hour in HD does not appeals to me.

Sorry for trolling, but:

Buena Vista Home Entertainment is planning to release the Disney hit IMAX film 'Roving Mars' on Blu-ray Disc July 31, day-and-date with the standard DVD debut. With the recent success of 'Planet Earth' on both high definition formats, high definition geographical documentary releases are sure to become more common.

...am I the only one how thinks that comparing the Mars with Planet Earth they might miss something that made tons of people buy Planet Earth? ;)

I stick to Totall Recall if I want to see the Mars. ;)

4:3 in 1080p! Oh the irony! :D

Maybe , but it'll have the full vertical resolution a plus in some ways.

I am looking forward to this a lot. I hope more IMAX/large format films make it to blu-ray/hd dvd. I heard Bugs! in 3D is coming out on HD DVD, I believe. That could be interesting :-) Albeit, this is a german release but, hopefully it will not be the last. I thought Everest was coming out soon too, but haven't heard any more about it.

A lot of those things seem to lose so much when they don't come out in 3D.

Deep Sea 3D IMAX was great, but if it's not 3D I'm not really interested.

kudos we're getting both the zoomed 16:9 version and the OAR, nice to see.

Well, I can tell you, being a large-format projectionist that even when they release IMAX films on DVD in "full-frame" format you are still not getting the full frame. Usually either a bit of the top or a bit off the bottom is gone, sometimes both. It is just really hard to display the whole frame since the frame size is quite a bit bigger than standard 35mm film. I don't mind the cropping so much in the 1.78:1 format because there is no was to get around it. Just FYI.

If this is the story of the Mars Rover, then I'm definitely IN....it's nice to see da arnold swinging his way around the red planet, but learning about the reality is even better....plus, dem robots is really COOL.... :)

I hope this sells well so that more things like this will get released. There are always people that will dislike IMAX movies like this and given them low scores, but I checked on imdb.com and about 32% of the people that rated this one gave it 10/10 (although there aren't many votes). One of the reasons I went to the expense and effort of setting things up in my house with a 10' wide screen is for releases like this.

"Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon" would be another IMAX 3D presentation I would love to see in High Def 3D.

I think there would be strong sales of all the IMAX collections in HD DVD or BR. I have the DVD set but wish for HD/BR.

I agree. I hope they release many of the classic titles in hi-def, preferably at 1.78:1.

Does this movie explain what happens before Transformers?

Actually both versions are cropped.

The widescreen versions are cropped on the top and bottom; the 4:3 version is cropped on the sides.

The only way to see any IMAX movie in its original aspect ratio (about 1.44:1) is in a theater.

I just bought this tonight and WOW is the audio fantastic. Does anyone know if there is a way to rip the launch/landing sequences? I want to put them in my demo material folder.
