Craigslist.com will get in contact with a large number of local buyers. And a number of scam artists. Be wary of anyone who offers more than asking price sight unseen, especially anyone who is from out of town, offers to send a cashier's check for the set and shipping, or asks you to cut a check for the difference to a "friend" who'll come by to pick up the set.

I think sailing it would be far more entertaining.

Me thinks so too,,,,,, its a great visual.

As far as selling and or sailing and or sale'ing your big TV I have seen some big items sell, sail or sale on Ebay offering local pick-up only, no shipping.

I would say Craigs list or Ebay.

secure payment of Paypal or US Postal Money Orders.... US Postal Money Orders have watermarks and fiber in them... Except only this payment or cash from local buyers and you will filter out the scammers. ;)

The best way to sell a TV is to just put an advertisement in your local paper. State "cash only." Forget the Internet. You need a local buyer. Beware that the value of a used TV is very low. Figure the cost of a new 60" TV, then cut that in half, then lower even more if the technology is very out of date or the set is damaged.
