View Full Version : xbox360 elite and sony KV-30HS420 overscan
Picked up my elite Sunday and hooked up via hdmi for the first time. I notice a lot of overscan, much more than I had with component. I notice the same thing if I hook up a pc with a dvi to hdmi cable.
I'm losing what looks to be 1 1/2" horizontally and about 1" vertically. Just a guess, hard to tell exactly.
How much can be adjusted in the service menu? Like I said it doesn't seem to be there over component, just hdmi. Can it be adjusted specifically for that input or do the adjustments effect all inputs?
Kinda hesitant about going in there. I did it on my previous 32" pani without too much trouble but didn't have overscan issues on that, just positioning. How hard is it on the sony?
DaddyDC650 05-01-07, 03:55 AM You can adjust it a ton! Just make sure you write down all of the original settings before you save the new settings. It's also not hard at all to adjust. GL!

Aren't you the guy that just hosed his dad's by messing around in there? Forgive me if I'm not fully confident in your reply.
ClayPigeon 05-01-07, 09:22 PM LOL i was thinking the same thing
like.no.other. 05-01-07, 09:30 PM It's not hard adjusting overscan. I think it's just a hidden monitor settings.
can anybody answer the input adjustment question?
can I adjust overscan specifically for hdmi or is it a one size fits all kinda thing?
I don't want to correct overscan on hdmi only to end up with a too small image when I am on component which will be everything but the xbox.
DaddyDC650 05-02-07, 12:33 AM So you're not confident in my reply even though I warned you to write down all your settings? Seems like smart advice to me. Go ahead and don't write down the settings like I did. LoL!
DaddyDC650 05-02-07, 12:38 AM Btw, MID1 and MID3 is what you're looking for. If you mess with any other category, it will effect the other inputs.

Didn't say noting the original settings before changing anything wasn't a good idea. That's a given, I know that much. You learned it the hard way. I was looking for specifics for the component vs hdmi. I'll take your last post under advisement. That one was more what I was looking for.
DaddyDC650 05-02-07, 02:10 AM sjp777, if you by any chance write down your settings can you possibly e-mail them to me? It'd be great to have a copy of the original settings since we own the same tv. I'm manly looking for Input 5,6 and 7 system menu settings. I'd be forever grateful.

uhh..... no. You are looking for VSIZ, VPOS, HSIZ, and HPOS.
DaddyDC650 05-03-07, 01:36 AM Like.no.other., if he messes with those settings, it'll mess with all of the inputs.... that's not what he wants.

Did you ever get this working? I'm in a similar boat where I want to correct the overscanning on the input 7 HDMI connection.
What do MID1 and MID3 reference?
I've also noticed that their is a HDMI subgroup in the service menu, could this be what we are looking for?
