After having my Harmony 890 for about a year (with no real problems after the initial setup headaches), it has apparently stopped working. Or the RF extender has stopped working. I'm stumped.

The issue is that the remote connects to the RF extender, but will not send signals to my components at all. It was working fine earlier in the day, and then suddenly stopped working. I don't believe that it's interference or anything like that, as I have another 890 working just fine in my bedroom, with nearly identical equipment around it.

I checked to see if I have the most recent firmware for both the remote and RF externder and I do.

Any Ideas? I love the remote when it works and don't want to give up on it yet.

I had issues with my RF extender after it was 2 weeks old. You can read about them starting here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9669992&&#post9669992) in my Harmony 890 impressions thread. The skinny on how I fixed it was I removed the RF extender from my list of remote devices, updated, then added it back and updated. That got mine working again. It's worth a try. If that doesn't get you back running, I would try Logitech support. The hold times are brutal, and likely your first call won't help you, but when you get upgraded to level 2 support they will hopefully be able to solve the problem or send you a replacement.

I'll definitely give that a try. I actually ran across your thread when I was researching my problem. I still don't understand how this could happen out of the blue.

I've had mixed results with logitech support. When I first got my 890 last year, I had issues with it not transmitting a signal to the RF extender from more than a few feet away. They worked on it quite a bit and eventually got it fixed, but it took weeks of back and forth to rectify the situation. I hope this won't be a repeat of that issue.

That's pretty much how mine happened. I had updated the remote/RF that day by adding another CD Player, but it was working. I came home that night, turned everything on to watch TV (including my RF controlled receiver) and it all worked fine. When I went to turn everything off in an hour or so, the RF just wasn't working. My remote would sync fine with the extender just like yours, but not send it commands. For whatever reason, removing it and adding it fixed the problem.

This worked like a charm. Thanks for the input, but I still find it odd that something like this could happen so abruptly.

Bugs thathappen once in a blue moon are the hardest to fix. This is probably a software or firmware issue and I am guessing Harmony will have trouble locating it.

I've been using my Harmony 890 in RF mode for the last 6 months and no problems until the weekend... where it suddenly stopped sending/receiving RF commands. It was the RF extender, for when I went to reconnect the Remote to the extender and pushed the connect button nothing happened. Did this multiple times and still would not work. The extender had froze up. Unplugged the extender and then powered it back on and everything worked again after connecting the remote to the extender. Everything worked fine for a few hours and then it locked up again.

Unplugged the extender and powered it back-on and reconnected... the remote indicated success at finding the extender, yet RF did not work this time. Finally, used the Remove RF Network or Remove RF Device feature and power cycled the RF extender and re-connected. Everything is working OK for now. I believe most of the issue is the RF extender for I have an 880 working in IR mode flawlessly for a couple of years.

Does anyone know the RF frequency that the Harmony 890 transmits in? For I was wondering if it is possible to use a different RF extender? For example the Next Generation RF Extender (http://www.nextgenerationhomeproducts.com/) operates either at 433 MHz or 418 MHz.

Is this a common problem with the 890, I was thinking of getting one myself. If it is could you recommend other alternatives.

Thanks alot to you guys and google for letting me find an answer to the exact same problem!

Removing the ir-blaster from the system, updating the harmony (895), and then re-adding the ir-blaster fixed my problems.

So nice to finally getting it up working!
