Paramount Home Entertainment has announced 'Black Snake Moan' starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci will be available June 26 on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. In addition, the previously announced but never dated catalog title 'Face/Off (Special Collector's Edition)' will be released August 28 on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Both titles are arriving day-and-date with the debut of their DVD counterparts.
Paramount has not issued any disc spec information as of yet for either title. As soon as information is released we'll update the disc details. In addition, check back regularly for pre-order links and high resolution cover art.
hassoon 05-01-07, 01:45 PM I refuse to buy any Paramount disc until they have these two issues figured out:
1- How to include lossless audio tracks
2- How to use advanced video codecs to ensure enough room for extras and said lossless track.
Actually I may import the Japanese version of Face/off, as it is suppsed to include a PCM track.
Is there anyone here that could confirm this?
Rogervienna 05-01-07, 01:45 PM Face/Off
Cool !! ;)
The Buena Vista version of Face/Off released in Japan (same region as US) this month will have PCM audio.
nickelplayer6 05-01-07, 03:14 PM Yup. I honestly didn't this title would have been so popular, but I have been receiving a bunch of questions about it.
face/off is one of those classic "guy" movies that 95% of males enjoy. its kinda like how pretty much everybody has gladiator and heat on their short list of movies they want on blu-ray/hd dvd. face/off isn't on the same popularity level as those 2, but most of us here will pick it up in a heartbeat when its released.
imo, face/off is by far the best of all those nicolas cage action movies; ie. the rock, con air, gone in 60 seconds, etc
Sweet, Face/Off.
I hope Con Air and The Rock get released on Blu-ray this Summer as well.
briankmonkey 05-01-07, 03:32 PM Face Off rocks, soundtrack is one of my favorites as well. Love the opening song.
beatboy77 05-01-07, 03:36 PM Other Coming Soon releases have been posted in the "Consolidated List of Blu-ray Releases" sticky.
I can't wait for Face/Off. I like to se Cage take on more of Villian role. I think he does well in those situations.

I'd honestly put "Face/Off" higher up on the list than I would "Gladiator," not because it's a better movie, but because "Gladiator" is more of a once or twice watched film for me. "Heat" however is MILES higher on my list than "Face/Off," but I'll have to wait until next year.
"Face/Off" was a movie I enjoyed when I watched it years ago, and I always meant to get it on DVD, but never did... so this is the first "catalog" title from Paramount I'm looking forward to since the MI trilogy and the original release titles.
I do disagree with you on one thing though. I much prefer "The Rock" over "Face/Off." The only thing about "The Rock" that I feel is inferior to "Face/Off" are no Dominique Swain talking on the phone scenes...

Yeah, FaceOff is great for its cinematography and vibrant color which makes it a plus for Blu-ray, but the Rock was a better movie IMO.
"I'll take pleasure in guttin you boy" - Love that line

Like in Kiss of Death? That would be my favorite Cage=badguy film.

ImaStar 05-01-07, 05:48 PM Loved both of these! Also great to hear Paramount releasing Black Snake Moan in both formats, very entertaining. Definite buys for me!
if they add just 640kb soundtrack for Blu-ray I will pass :( :(
please add DolbyTrueHD or PCM on Blu-ray...

That is why we import ;)
Well I can't import from Japan if the disk is region coded :( because I am using UK B version of PS3 :(

provenflipper 05-02-07, 12:21 PM Paramount needs to get on the ball and start including some sort of Lossless audio. They are the only studio that hasn't put out at least one lossless track for BD. Even Warner looks like it is starting to include lossless audio for some of their upcoming releases.
"I'm gonna take his face... off"
Can't wait!

I believe Buena Vista has the distribution rights for Face/Off in Europe too. I've seen the Scandinavian Blu-ray release listed as being from Buena Vista (with EAN code 8717418122027) but it has no release date yet so it probably won't be released very soon...
evenodds 05-02-07, 10:04 PM Looks like I'm the only one interested in Black Snake Moan.
I'll be buying Face/Off.
This was listed in their press release at CES back in January.
Anyone else find it refreshing that Paramount actually releases what they say they are going to release? Sure they are a little slow in quantity, and conservative overall with regards to HD. Still, at least with Paramount it seems we can bank on them actually releasing what they say they are going to release.
Thumbs up for Paramount for the time being. Now, if they could just start using lossless audio and get the title count up a bit, I'd be very happy.

Not the only one, but I am cautiously optimistic, will be a rental for sure.
The description is very strange, but the trailer makes it look almost like a black comedy.
WildeZc 05-03-07, 12:48 PM I'll definitely be getting Face/Off!

Face-off Blu-ray Japan release on 23-May-2007.
Price : $33 (Another Japan Rip-off)
Donno why the next gen titles are priced so high in Japan (like the DVD) when the formats are struggling to see the light of the day.
Look at games: some titles that are $50 here are over $70 there, as variable pricing is more accepted. As someone who's lived in Europe - things in the US are cheap. Enjoy it!

Count me in as extremely eager to see Christina Ricci in 1080p.
Dr Kain 05-04-07, 12:12 PM Awesome news, but where is Team America and Lemony Snickett??? Not sure which format I'll be picking Face Off for though.
