I'm considering buying a multi disc player.
I'm looking for suggestions on what brand to look at or advice on whether or not to even bother.
Thanks
Joe

You mean a changer? One that'll hold five or six (or four hundred :p ) discs?

I've owned two changers, a Panasonic and currently an Onkyo. I love them, and they play as well as the single disc players I've owned. Sony also makes good ones (including the 400 disc megachanger mentioned above.)

I'm thinking one of the 400 disc changers.
Are the sonys good?

I think only Sony and Pioneer make them anymore. I've never owned one, but there was a thread about them in this forum (I think it's called "DVD changer.") They're pretty high priced, though (around $400.)

You can get a Sony or Panasonic five disc for around $120, or a refurbed Onkyo six disc for $150 ($170-$200 new.) Denon and Yamaha make five disc ones, too, I believe, for similar prices to the Onkyo.

Ihad one but returned it. Nothing major wrong with it, but I felt my Sony 555ES was better with respect to features and user interface. I also felt the upconverting over hdmi didn't give me an improvement over the Sony (probably depends on your tv). So the only thing I was gaining was dvd-audio.

Sony features which may not matter much to some:
- memory for last 99? discs on restart point
- replay, skip on the remote. Does a 20 sec rewind/ff like some dvrs have.
- buttons are above the tray. not below where they are hard to see
- exchange on any 4 discs not playing vs 2 opposite the playing one

I've been happy with my Sony DVP-NC875V 5-disk changer I've had for a little while. I think I will be getting a Sony DVP-NC85 5-disk changer soon for the HDMI capability. I am going to relegate the 875 to CD-only duty when I do.

I haven't been able to find anything better for the price (less than $130).

If you can live with a 5-disc changer the Yamaha 750 & 950 can easily be made region free and also have PAL-to-NTSC conversion. Don't know about DivX support though.
