Hello :o This is my first post greatings to all members.I recently purchased an open box KD34XS955 Sony TV. Its got the super fine pitch tube. On power-on the black and white info menu is displayed normally however in the corners the RGB color components gradually blend into the Black White info screen. This can take about a minute or it can hang for more. The picture is great but this behavior is wierd. My other set is a 1992 XBR ( KV 32XBR50) It had it's bios reset and recalibrated by a sony tech. It has started to misalign the RGB color in the corners. I know what phosphor burn is like on a tube but this is not like it.I feel the problems may be similiar in origin. Any ideas so that I would not get the run around from service people. Thank you in advance

If you view a solid white (all three colors) or individual color (red, green, blue) test pattern and see uneven color presentation, this is a color purity problem.

The problem can be caused by a number of external and internal causes. Do you have any external speakers or electronic components near the set? The magnetic field produced by speakers or power supply transformers can cause these problems. If the source is transient, in other words, something with a magnetic field was placed near the set and then removed, like a screw gun or magnet, the lingering effects should be resolved with a few cycles of the automatic degausser. The degausser makes the surging sound heard at power up. The degausser will only function if the set has been powered down for more than a few minutes.

If all external magnetic sources have been removed and the degausser has not resolved the issue after a few days of power cycles, adjustment of the LANDING parameters in the service menu may be needed to resolve the purity problem.

If you venture into the service menu, please record the current values before adjusting parameters. If you are not comfortable in the service menu, don't go there.
