Calling all PlayStation 3 owners: God of War designer David Jaffe said on his blog today that the PlayStation Store downloadable game Calling All Cars! has finished development and testing, or reached the point where a retail game is said to have "gone gold."

Originally titled Criminal Crackdown, Calling All Cars! is Jaffe's first foray into the downloadable game arena. In his post (warning: contains some profanity), Jaffe thanked eager fans for patiently dealing with the game's delays and said it was time to get back to work on his second small game project.

As for when gamers can actually get a crack at Calling All Cars!, Jaffe said it will be released on the PlayStation Store Thursday, May 3, with a retail price of $9.99.

EDIT: This just showed up on joystiq! Dammit Jaffe!!!!!!

Like a little girl struggling to keep her favorite doll out of the garage sale bin, David Jaffe is returning to the world of Calling All Cars to make some fixes and revise some of the criticisms the title received via reviews, even after announcing that the title has gone gold, according to a post he left on the NeoGAF forums. The title, therefore, has been delayed for an unspecified time.

The bug fixes concern network connection and voice chat issues. Jaffe apologizes, of course, and notes that the previously-mentioned release date was never official. ("Sony was kinda annoyed that I claimed 5/3 as release date," he said.) Would gamers have preferred the game be released on time with a patch promised at a later time? We're leaning towards no, given the importance of multiplayer in the game, although our opinions might sway depending on how long these two "key bugs" take to fix.

I am never upset for long about a game being delayed. I'd rather get a better game later. Kudos to Gamespot for calling this game out. Now its going to geta little extra attention and thats never a bad thing with any release.

I'd agree with you if he delayed the game for additional content but he's pulling the game for technical issues (voice chat and networking). A definite good thing but probably zero to do with the gamespot review which focused on lack of content.

Yes I agree. Let him get it perfected...The extra content ie more maps or levels..i doubt he will add them in...but who knows....they might have been working on extra levels for a later release so he might put them in this update...As long as the bugs are fixed...i am ok with it, since it is a $10 game...

This has got to be the most dramatized release of a $10 party game ever. I checked out Jaffe's blog and found it to be a little "odd." Im unsure on this game. I've read a bunch of good things but 4 maps and basicly 1 car seems pretty skimpy.

Peaople bitch, **** gets streched. I am actually with Jaffe on this. Let them feel it bro, they complained, want better - well now wait for it. What I respect him about the most, especially in this scenario; is the fact the man actually took this into account, and is addressing the issue!

His response to Joystiq's article

"TO THE LAME ASS WEBSITE THAT SHALL GO UNNAMED- F*ck you, guys. Go f*ck yourselves. What other developer makes a f*cking change to a game when a review (IGN's in this case) has a good, valid point and is willing to open the f*cking code up at the risk of more bugs to make the game better? Amazing. But hey, you guys are great, you guys rock. I hope Kotaku f*cking puts your ass out of business, wanna be f*cktards. And if you were actual journalists you would have read the motherf*cking quote I posted on NEOGAF where I said because of the two bugs we needed to fix (not because I was afraid of the bargin bin) we had a window of opp. to fix the magnet problem. *******s...total f*cking *******s."

Well, the guy is passionate about his work. Most of these game sites are run by clowns but Joystiq takes the cake.
