I was wondering TH-50PH9UK is the same thing as the TH-50PHD8UK, only a newer model? I am confused by the model numbers, and the TH-50PHD8UK has a "D" in it, but I could not find a TH-50PHD9UK. If anyone could let me know, that would be great.
A friend of mine has the TH-50PHD8UK and I think it looks great. I wanted the same thing, but if the 9UK is the same thing only lighter (from what I've read) I would just get that.

Yup.

The "D" stands for Display. As Techniwizard mentioned on other thread, most likely Panasonic dropped the "D" to make space for the upcoming 10th Generation Commercial Displays which have an additional digit. TH-xxPH10UK.

I used to have the TH-50PHD8UK. The TH-50PH9UK is definitively a better Display. Plus, looks like Panasonic extended the 5-Year Warranty one more time ( May, 30 2007 ? ) so you'll get an extra 4-year Warranty.

I am strongly considering the TH-50PH9UK or the Pioneer 507-CMX to go above a fireplace in a home we recently purchased. Viewing distance is 9'- 10'.
Do you have a strong opinion or preference from these 2?
I currently have a Panny TH37PX50U viewed from 7.5' that I love for OTA SD & HD, & HD DVD (Tosh X-A1). We are currently offering it as trade bait for selling our existing house, since it will be too small for the den in the new home.
Thanks.
