i think what u will find is the sigma design chip for the tvix m4100sh is only suitable for current broadcast HD material up to 1080i (nothing above this and no blu-ray rips). It apparently can only decoce video up to 4:2:0 chroma format (for x264)and does not support the new colour space. (this is confirmed via the sigma designs website on the .pdf on the EM8623L)

It also lacks support for hdmi 1.3 as it supports 1.1 and offers 128MB oF DDR1 RAM. Apparently on the sigma designs site, under the 8620L page, it states there is an even newer chip desginated for portable media players, 8628L...

The main profile levels which the m4100sh supports are detailed here (http://www.sigmadesigns.com/public/Products/EM8620L/pdf_files/EM8620L_br.pdf) on the pdf.

From looking at the wikipedia site here are the profiles it decodes in detail for x264 and MPEG-2.

hope this helps!

If you want "the truth" read TPeterson's posts in the main thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=825089

He actually owns the unit and will tell you what it plays and what it doesn't play.

How can he own it?It has not even been released yet!

Anyway, i am still considering on getting one of these ..they should perform well with HD files up to 1080i and they cover all of the requirements (file profiles) needed to decode current broadcast HD material. At the moment, pretty much all of it is in 4:2:0 and around 20Mb/s for x264 and practically the same encoding/bitrates for MPEG-2.

I still think this is the cream of the crop right now..!
