Nice to see Warner giving BD the Lossless treatment. Hopefully this will continue to be a trend and not a hit or miss opportunity.

Also kudos to them for putting two short IMAX films on one disc - takes up a lot less space on my shelf!

The Dream is Alive has the most incrdible shuttle lift off I've ever seen. No count down just birds, water starts to pour onto the pad, boom the main engines ignite you see it sway while still sitting on the pad and then the solids ignite.... just awesome !

The Dream is Alive is fantastic, as is Blue Planet, but if I was packaging this I'd reverse the features.

Well, 1.78:1 is NOT the original aspect ratio of either of these films. Our theatre used to be an IMAX theatre and the ratio is close to 1.33:1 but maybe not quite. The full-framed versions on the IMAX DVD's is still cropped a little on the top or bottom and sometimes both. But it is great news they are releasing two of my personal favorites on BD. The sound will be incredible and you will want to turn down your system a little during the launch sequences in both films as it is real loud. Obviously Amazon made a mistake in their description of Planet Earth stating the bonus movie was Dream is Alive. This is where they made that mistake. Planet Earth does not = Blue Planet.

Yeah, IMAX is about 1.33 ratio. What is interesting about this release is that it was originally only BLUE PLANET. I guess WHV decided that a 40 min disc was too short (especially for what it costs to make and distribute), so they pushed the release back by about 6 weeks and added THE DREAM IS ALIVE to the disc!

It sucks that these don't offer the original ratio like the mars rover disc.

I am curious why Warner choose to have TrueHD on HD DVD and Lossless PCM on Blu-ray? Will it be easier for them just release the same TrueHD tracks for both HD DVD and Blu-ray?

i am all over these IMAX releases. Better than the crappy blu-ray movie titles that have been trickling down lately. Planet Earth showed the studios how hungry we early adopters are for quality content.

They are both TrueHD (Dolby Surround 5.1 MLP = Dolby TrueHD)

Added the back cover today.

WHV also announced today that there will be a bunch more HD docs coming soon.

Because not every Blu Ray player supports TrueHD unlike HD DVD, where it is part of the spec.

With the recent updates, most Blu-ray players support TrueHD now.

But it is TrueHD on Blu-Ray...

Now that WB seems to be the studio with the most banding and the lowest bitrates of the major studios, how do you think these will look?

1.78:1 is a fine AR for IMAX. Usually there is A LOT of head and toe room in the composition because the audience is usually tuned into the center of the screen. Also, by going with 1.78:1 you might actually see more side information than at 1.33:1. Yes, I've seen comparisons of both AR's.

IMAX film negatives have a fairly weird aspect ratio.
