this might be a silly question, but are there any noticable differences between a new-in-box model and a panny refurb model? part of me is cautious in buying a refurb, but the other part of me says if its being refurbished by panny, then why not?

any advice or feedback is welcome.

thanks!!

I've never been absolutely certain whether Panasonic themselves is doing the refurbishing or if their (more than likely) contracting with another company to do it for them.
Case in point......I noticed that some Panny refurb dvd players/recorders come from Mexico, yet I have never seen a Panasonic dvd unit of any kind built in Mexico!
Also, it has stated on refurb boxes that I have seen "refurbished for Panasonic". So perhaps in reality, Panny is not actually doing the work.

Refurbs are hit and miss (personal experience). You have to be lucky. The physical condition can vary and the reliability can be in doubt. The warranty is always 90 days parts and labor. A new dvd recorder or combo dvd recorder/VHS will have a full year parts and labor. Bottom line......whenever possible, go with a new unit!
Good luck! :)
