I'm looking for something to watch tv, play DVD's on, and of course play Xbox and PS3 on.

I was pretty much set on a Visio p50 or VP50, but they seem to be somewhat more problematic.

Another tv I considered was the Pany 50pxu I think.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the Panny 50PX60U and it's outstanding with all the content you mentioned. There are some great choices in your price range including, Panasonic, Pioneer even samsung. Stay away from Vizio unless it's the only thing you can afford, despite what many Vizio fanboys here will tell you, it's a second tier, lower preforming plasma.

Poor Roman, that dtrell started/mod-edit finished combo post will probably end up drowning him in a tidal wave of unrealistically excited, then subsequently crestfallen inquirers. :D

Vizio is made to display a good picture for the money, but not an excellent picture. Now that prices have come down on 50"models, the Vizio P50 will find it hard to compete. As you sit closer to the screen you will notice pixelization and video noise on most Vizio models. Brands such as Pioneer and Panny, are much more tolerable will provide a better picture up close. Like shasta mentioned, Vizio is consider a Tier 2 level product, vs. the Panasonic, which is considered a top-tier.

As for your question, spend the extra for the Panny 50PX60U. You will be happy you did.

But if you are going to compare a 50 then might as well go to a 5070HD.

What are the differences between the two?

Also, can I use a plasma, more specifically the Panny for a PC monitor?

I've seen them there as well..THe Pany is a much better buy than the twice as likely to need repairs Vizio.......(Just got a Cons. Reports mag today...they were VERY high on Pany models!) :D

Can't see why you don't want to use $800 in gift cards.

5070HD in my opinion has better colors and smoother motion and definitely looks better externally. You can use a PC on a 5070HD and the Panny 60U doesn't have the PC input.

Depends what price point you are at. The TH-50PX60U are being given away. Also look in the Panasonic TH-50PX600U and save yourself some money. (Apples to Apples to the Pioneer as far as features).

Back to the main question the Visio being ~$**** and the Panny ~$****. Take the panny, far better unit.

What about everything else? Like colors, motion smoothness and exterior look?

Depends what you are looking at (cost VS price). Pioneer has a tad bit better picture , Panny smokes there price, tough call. That is why this forum is split about 50/50. At least there are other options are out there.

You have already mentioned you leave all of the true comparisons up to your installers. So how would you know this?? You stated this !! <<<click here>>> (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10410158&&#post10410158)

Is this different today ??

Belive it or not there are many people that prefer the silver on the Panny to the glossy black Pioneer. I like the 5070 but the 50PX60U is a better value IMO, better blacks. Bottom line their very close in term of overall PQ.

I searched the websited if BB and CC, and they don't seem to have the 5070.

I guess I might go with the Panny, unless the VP50 gets some glowing reviews.

Keep the suggestions coming....THANKS!!

I do visit my showroom/store and have the 5070HD, 6070HD, TH-50PX600u, Toshiba, Sharp etc. on display and can tell you what I think. I just have people to do my installs and don't do them myself (we do agree on some thing Chris since I know you like Pioneer)
PS and no Chris and I don't fight its respect :)
