i have a bunch of tv shows on dvd that i've been collecting for a few years (friends, seinfeld, family guy, star treks, xfiles, alias, mythbusters, etc.)... i watch them a lot, and i'm honestly tired of rifling through all of those discs to find the episodes i want to watch.

so, i'm going to do some type of server for the tv shows only. would it be better to set up a server, and have the xbox XBMC stream the shows? Or should i go with the shows on the HD internally?

obviously, an external would give me more flexibility for storage upgrades in the future.

also, could i just skip this XBMC step and run the 360 streaming? that limits me to file types, though, I'd have to encode in WMV, correct? but i would get the option of running higher resolutions.

thanks for any advice/tips direction. i appreciate it.

I only have 2 TVs (and I had 2 XBMCs) but I kept a central box to pull shows from that had about 900GB or so of things.. much simpler to maintain then a hard drive in the xbox. Across a wired network the shows start very fast.. over wireless they take a few seconds.. If only the XBMC had the hp to play back HD content life would be so much simpler..

if i'm going to go with a streamer, i could just use the 360... too bad it doesn't have the cool front end for the MCE.
