No manual available on Toshibas website (http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvr/product.asp?model=d-r550) but the info given says it will read but not write dvd-ram.

Chasing is done with dvd-rw.

Anyone know why they dropped dvd-ram write support?

I can't tell you "why" but I can confirm. I have had mine a week and they use DVD-RW for time slip and chasing playback. I think it's a great unit. If you have a question from the user manual, I can try to find the answer for you.

Does this unit have a RF antenna input?

At least the specs for the Toshiba U.S. site are accurate (no DVD-RAM recording). In Canada, there is a new model (D-R6 which is essentially a 550 but with an analog tuner) and their website and spec sheet proudly claim DVD-RAM recording support. This is incorrect. I have informed Toshiba Canada tech support about this and they are "looking into it".

It's a great recorder, but Canadians should note that you won't get the DVD-RAM writing as advertised.

It has a standard antenna/coax cable input. I have hooked it up both with cable input and with an HD antenna and both worked fine, though I had to set the tuner to cable or antenna input separately for the tuner to find the channels.
