For those of you who have returned a dead PS3 or at least in part a faulty PS3, how did Sony handle the return? I am returning mine for BT issues and when I spoke to the CSR I could swear it was a 5-7 day turn around. I got an email from UPS and the return box is being shipped ground - will arrive in 7 days. Something seems off here. I have read of others getting stuff Overnight UPS but that was early after release. Do they set a priority based on non-functioning vs. functioning but accessory problem?

EDIT: I Just called Sony and UPS - just thought I would share. It was/used to be 3 - Day Air per 2 Sony reps who still thought it should be. They checked and shipping protocols have changed. Ground is the new thing. So 7 days to get it. 7 days to return it likely (ground again) and then 3 Day Air to me...Yeah. So I will like get a new PS3 in Drum Roll Please...17 - 20days. Sweet! Thats not the quite turnaround I was expecting.

Yeah, maybe they were only doing that in the beginning...I was also surprised by how well they treated people's exchanges in the early months. It doesn't surprise me now that it takes longer and such..

I was very pleased with the way sony handled my return/exchange..
Mainly because it didnt cost me (another) dime..

My PS3 came up with an error during updating. They sent me a box
pre-paid shipping and i got my new PS3 exactly 10 days later

it took 3 days for my ps3 to get to them, and as they said it took 7 days from when
they received my ps3..
and most importantly, it works now!
good luck..

my experience with 7 day shipping is pretty good. I live in nebraska and when I've had to ship boxes 7D ground it usually gets to the coast within 3 days. YMMV, it depends on where you live and when the mail comes and goes. If you can drop the box off early in the morning at a major distribution center, you package will probably be sent out in the afternoon to the distribution center closest to it final destination. If you drop it off at the local postal extension on Saturday at 5PM, it's not going anywhere till monday and then it will go to the major distribution center closest to you first. Moral of the story, you can shave days off your end of the shipping time with a little extra effort.

I had my controler just og out on me. I'd bought it in Jan, so I did not think I'd get much help. Well the CS rep was VERY accomodating to me and we were ALMOST OFF the phne (with them shipping a new controler) and then she put me on hold :( well she came back on and said sorry the controler is covered for 30 Days tough luck. I spent my whole lunch hour talking to her and then that.

MIND YOU I really did not expect much.

I did say screw it and tore the controler apart and got it working LOL

I fully hope to shave off time where I can - just right now I'm a the mercy of UPS. The box was drop shipped 5/1 and has sat in San Antonio Tx until a departure scan this AM 5/4. That is 2 to 3 days depending on how you look at it where the box went nowhere. UPS estimated/scheduled and now rescheduled (for what reason I will never know) delivery date is 5/9. It looks like if they could have gotten it out of TX earlier it would really only have taken 3 - 4 business days. The sad part is that I then have to turn around and ship it ground back - which I expect will be another 7 - 8 days based purely on the trip out to California. I hope I'm wrong though. I will definately try to shave off as much time sending it back though - but I can't see how I can possibly achieve a 10 day PS3 turnaround like jimmythe creep posted with the new gound shipping protocols. Sigh...I just will have to watch zero BR's and more DVD's while I wait.

As someone who works for UPS once it gets to major hubs it will move quicker. but UPS works on a hub and spoke principle which sometimes makes very redundant moves. But if you live in a major city even ground shipping should not take more than 3-4 business days, baring any mistakes.

That's a joke. If I'm returning something under warranty, i'll demand Fedex and if they insist on UPS, i'll demand 2 day air. The way UPS and Fedex bundles their services, I don't care what a customer service agent says, they can do it with little cost difference to Sony.
