View Full Version : Super Rub a Dub?
stevesns69 05-03-07, 05:25 PM I went online to the PS store and bought Super Rub a Dub. The icon said full game not demo. Now all of the sudden it's not in the PS store and the version I downloaded is giving me an error. I thought it was strange that it was such a small file (like 100KB). If there is a problem with this game and hope they fix it soon and repost it back in the store because they already got my money. I know I know it looks childish, but I played the demo I got from another foreign PS store and it's kind of fun. It really shows off the six-axis motion control really well and it was only 6 bucks. You can even see the ripples in the water from the controller moving. I'm sure Sony realized it and that's why it's no longer in the PS store.
you have to download the US demo and install it.

Awesome, so it's not screwed up at all? I just have the wrong demo version. Thanks for the heads up MUGEN!!
ppshooky 05-03-07, 06:11 PM It's probably marked in your account that it's been purchased. Once it's released, you'll be able to download it again.
I believe someone said that PSN store purchases can be downloaded as many times as you'd like, but can only download it to a maximum of 4 different PS3s (probably does some MAC address checking so games aren't shared amongst a large number of people).
stevesns69 05-03-07, 07:04 PM I got mine working, MUGEN is right I just needed the right demo. This game is definitely a test of hand to eye coordination. I think it's fun for what it cost. Off topic here, but any word on Calling All Cars and how long they're going to delay it. I was going to buy that today too. Thanks

I played through the first set easy levels and I liked it. But when I complete a level, my internet ranking was always reported as "--". After I finished the first 20 easy levels, a high score list came up abut I couldn't find myself. I thought it was autoscrolling to my position on the list but it was just some random person.
Also, most of the top places were people with times like 00:00:00.020 or something absurdly low. Is the scoreboard messed up or is there some exploit or is one of the levels able to be completed very quickly?

I noticed this too. Some levels had impossible times of like less than 3 seconds for like 20 ducks. But overall, this was a fun game and something the kids could play. That is one thing that the PS3 is losing out on to the Wii, Family Games. After Sonic the Hedgehog, what other game could you really buy for your kid that would justify forking over $600 for a new console?
I liked that tilting your controller made the high score list scroll. A silly as it sounds, it is a pretty slick way of doing that.

I dont have kids, but I dont think I'd buy a $600 console for them if they did. If anything, a GC or Wii.

LOL, I thought it was autoscrolling to my name!
If there is an exploit then a lot of people have figured it out.
Megalith 05-04-07, 01:11 AM This is weird...
I downloaded the demo version, but I think it installed the full version instead, since there's still an installer for Super Rub a Dub demo showing under the game list.
Mattardo 05-04-07, 05:09 PM This game was supposed to be fun? Yikes
ppshooky 05-04-07, 05:35 PM This game was supposed to be fun? Yikes
Reviews seem to think otherwise.
My fiance enjoyed the demo, though.
I enjoyed for some quick fun but wouldn't buy it.
Mattardo 05-04-07, 11:08 PM I find this whole sixaxis bull exactly that: bull. Blast Factor is a perfect example - when you jerk the controller to one side it's iffy. I don't remember which is which, but one side always worked, and the other one almost never worked. Same with Super QUack whatever it's called. The jumping is wretched and you end up tilting the board as you jump so you end up flying somewhere else. My God, Sony, give up on your motion sensing gimmick for the love of Christ! If I had known it was motion-sensing, I never would have downloaded the demo.
I disagree. It was very easy to control Rub a dub with the tilt. It's a fun little time waster.

Blast Factor works fine for me. And, i don't have any problems with the control in Super Rub a Dub. Maybe it's you.
Mattardo 05-05-07, 12:08 PM You are correct: I am the only person who ever lived who has a problem with the Sixaxis controller and it's sensitivity. I am also the only person who ever loses his connection with the Bluetooth signal thus causing me to charge off of cliffs and get murdered in shooters. Flow worked great with the controller: I will give it that. Super Rub and Blast, though, have detection problems. Everyone who has tried these games with me agrees that it's hit or miss and too unreliable. Well, at least I didn't purchase Super Rub and learned from the demo. I suppose that's what it's there for.
William Mapstone 05-05-07, 12:52 PM The sixaxis controlls seems to work fine for me in the demo.
bdizzle 05-05-07, 03:33 PM worked well for me too. only played it once, but it was relatively responsive. id buy the whole thing if i was bored enough

Heh, my g/f couldnt stop laughing when I was playing the demo. She thoght it was the cutest game in the world. lol
That being said, I dont expect that game would hold my interest for longer than 15 minutes though. Also, the controls don't seem to be as bad as the ign review is making it out to be. If you take any game where you're trying to tilt a board to get marbles or whatever to go in the holes, it's usually never precise.

You really need to relax.

That's funny, in the Microsoft forums I read they say IGN is in Sony's pocket.
Anyway, I wish there was some way to not have to use sixaxis and just use the other controls. I'm still on the fence whether to buy the full version or not.

Just my worthless .02, but using the anologue sticks would kinda ruin it.

I spent another hour or so last night playing the full version and continue to enjoy it.
Once I figured out how the scoring system worked it made a lot more sense. I'm now through the 2nd level and actually placed #700 on one of the mid level maps on the first try. Since then I've started trying to get on the scoreboard for some of the easy 1st level maps and managed to place somewhere around #830 on the 2nd map after 10 or 15 tries.

The controls can be very precise. In the full version, you can replay the top 5 high scores for every board and watch how those guys do it. They can launch that duck like a missile and can fly through tight diagonal cliffs at full speed.

It's funny the way websites review games. If this was a game on the Wii, it'd prob. get a 7.5-8.0.
at least there is some strategy, competetion, and some replayability to this game (compared to Flow) -
After buying Flow, I finished it after a couple hours, and never played it again so far.
SpeedyHTPC 05-06-07, 11:54 AM I wished there were more than 20 tables. This feels like a Wii game. Only if the PS3 had a sensor of some sort on the controller, it would put the Wii completely out.
I wished there were more than 20 tables.the game has 60 tables and maybe some hidden ones when you get all gold medals on all 60 tables.
SpeedyHTPC 05-06-07, 12:02 PM Cool! thanks for the info!
wunsche 05-06-07, 10:18 PM This game is a ball. My son (4 1/2 yrs old) loves it, and his little brother loves to watch him play too. We've unlocked all but the top 12 or so hardest levels.
The controls are extremely accurate. If you're having a problem, maybe something is wrong with your controllers or PS3. I've never once had a control lock up or drop out like you said either (in any game).
One thing nobody has mentioned: the surround sound (5.1) in this game is actually pretty good!
donricouga 05-07-07, 12:47 PM So no one here was able to download the full game? I added money to my wallet on the PS Store and tried to download also and it failed. Now it disappeared and can't retry
Aside from that i like the 5.1 sound and its a pretty fun game. for $7 i think its worth it. I really want to play the multi-player portion of this game.

Download the demo, and then re-download the key.
My wife loves this game, she never ever plays video games...

Once you purchase a game, go to the "Download List" at the top right of the PSN store to re-download it. To play this game you will also need to, quite un-intuitively, download the demo.
I'm sure they figured people would download the demo first and then the game, and did that to cut down on the need to download redundant data. And that's fine, but it should automatically grab the data files if you haven't downloaded the demo, or inform you that you need to do that.
The controls seem off to me, the board doesnt always move when I want it too. Shouldnt matter that Im not facing the PS3 head on should it?

Some levels have water current, so it seems like something is fighting your control.

Your orientation to the PS3 should have no bearing.

Your wife would love the Wii as does mine.
Your wife would love the Wii as does mine.
Not going to happen, $250 for a few games, besides she has no real time to play.
Has Sony revised the online ranking system today? While working on the hard levels, I've been getting ranked for almost every semi-decent attempt on a map. I've seen ranks as low as 2000+ where on the lower levels on the previous days I only seemed to get ranked when I placed better than ~1000. Does this just have something to do with less people playing the harder levels or have they expanded the scoreboard depth?
My scores have been getting a lot better on the hard levels regardless. I ranked #177 on 3:2 and #240 on 3:9. But 3:18 was kicking my butt and I had to stop. Watching that blackbird guy play that map is disgusting.
harv405 05-08-07, 01:31 PM I think its fun and shows off the six axis very well. As said in other posts, it is also VERY accurate. Ive never had any problem whatsoever while playing it.
Conspiracy* 05-08-07, 02:32 PM I think rub a dub is an awesome game. Much more fun than flow, flow is calming and pretty fun, but rub a dub is really fun. My bro and I played the game for about 2 hours the other day taking turns trying to beat each others high score.
The reason it shows -- for your online ranking is because you're not in the top 1000. Theres no exploit...you just have to do the maps flawlessly and get all the ducks in a chain and it'll turn a 18 sec pass into a 3 sec pass. The hardest level of games are really hard. My wife likes it....its the only game shes ever touched on ps3.
Conspiracy*, it's now ranking people at least as far as 2000. I had a rank that was above 2000 so it might go even further.
SpeedyHTPC 05-09-07, 05:14 PM Is anyone else impressed with the water simulation? I think the simulation of the water is awesome.
donricouga 05-09-07, 05:21 PM Its a good game but i sometimes my board bounces randomly and I don't even do anything. Then when i want the duck to jump, sometimes it doesn't work. Overall though, i find it very challenging and fun
jikkjack 01-23-08, 12:09 PM WOW. I downloaded this game for the wife to play last night and she cried! She said this game is very mean. I agree, this game is very dark. Killing young ducks and being chased by evil Sharks!!!
They should put a "M" rating on this demo for sure! Even if you are successful, the ducks get flushed down a drain...and how about the baby ducks turning grey when the momma duck dies! E-vil.
PS - Anybody know if there is a PS3 Theme for this game? I am interested in one with the Shark eating a group of little ducks! Thanks. ;)
Smurf Byte 01-23-08, 06:11 PM Did you buy the full version so you can eat ducks with the shark in the bonus tubs? The duck bits and belching is great.
