Hi All,

I have Comcast's Expanded Basic Cable package. I don't' have a cable box. Approx. 2 weeks ago I received a letter from Comcast stating that they would be switching over to all digital signals by June. Therefore, in order to continue to receive services, I would need to get a converter box from them.

Here's my problem. I've got splitters all over the place so that we can get cable on every TV in the house (5). So, if I get this converter from Comcast, will that one box be sufficient for all 5 sets or do I need to do something more in order to keep the reception on all my sets.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You will need a digital cable box for every TV.

Hmmm. No response.

Probably hasn't gained consciousness yet.

What type of Televisions do you have? If any of your sets have a QAM tuner you will be able to receive unscrambled digital channels from Comcast. Cable QAM in the clear channels vary by area/provider, but most offer HD feeds of local networks and a handful of digital stations.

Sadly, all my sets are from the Stone Ages...they're cable-ready analogs. I really hate to have to give Comcast any more of my money. Does anyone have any ideas where I can buy (legally) any more of these converter boxes?

No can do.

Tell 'em you're switching to satellite, and maybe they'll give you a deal in order to keep you.

If they won't, and you can have satellite where you live, switch. E* would probably be best for you, because they've got those SD dual-tuners that cover two rooms - the first one's free, and each one after is 5 or 6 bucks.

Comcast won't let you use anything but their rented boxes or Cablecards. Or a QAM tuner (which leaves out encrypted channels.)

Your best bet is to call them up and threaten to defect to satellite. A friend of mine threatened to drop TWC and they gave him a few premium channels on the house to keep him on.

Well, I do believe either satellite or WOW cable is in my future.

Thanks to all. :)

With satellite, you'll still need an STB for each set. If WOW is available in your area, you may be able continue "business as usual"... As long as they aren't 100% digital yet.
