View Full Version : Ncaa College Football 2008 and Madden 2008
Is anyone else Pumped about these games? Madden and this game are the two main reasons I bought the PS3. I know that alot of people were dissapointed in Madden 07 for PS3 and I know that NCAA's first next gen offering was not well received for XBOX 360. Just by reading the reviews on IGN they note that NCAA will display at 60 rps instead of 30 what that means in terms of better game play I have no idea!!!!! Just wondering what everyones expectations are of these two titles
talbain 05-03-07, 07:43 PM hell yeah. should be great. i'll probably end up getting the 360 versions though, unless the ps3 revs are better...
Penvision66 05-03-07, 11:12 PM Hopefully they get their act together this time around.
throwback559 05-03-07, 11:26 PM is Madden gonna be better for the ps3 or 360 ?

Does that mean NCAA 08 is going to be a 1080p game then running at 60rps?
lacombo 05-04-07, 02:52 AM dont know about NCAA but if they get Madden like they talkin, it should be a major upgrade. Hopefully NCAA get the new Madden updates for '09. I'm def happy all the usual stuff is finally over to this gen.
still dont know which system Im getting them for though. It was interesting using the controller as the hit stick last yr on the ps3, since you basically jerk it anyway.
SirDrexl 05-04-07, 12:35 PM If they get NCAA running at 60fps, that bodes well for Madden doing the same. It's about time! :)
It seemed like the 360 struggled a bit with some of the graphics on NCAA 07, at least with the cut scenes and stadium shots. And considering how poor those shots were overall, I'm thinking I'll go with the PS3 version for 08.

You realize that coding plays a big part in "problems" like that don't you? If the 360 can run say, Gears of War, and run it VERY well, then don't you think its reasonable to assume the the PS3 and 360 versions of NCAA Football and Madden shouldn't be nearly as taxing, if coded correctly?
SQUIDWARD360 05-04-07, 02:39 PM Every year we hear the same stuff about the new Madden. That this is going to be the year that it has drastic improvements but it ends up having marginal improvements and gets by on the NFL license. Right now Madden is 60% hype, 30% NFL license and 10% gameplay.

I can't say any version of Madden ever had less than what I expected it to.
And I've bought them all.
I'm just glad the defensive hot routes finally made it to next gen.
Jiffylush 05-04-07, 03:37 PM IMHO Madden 07 on the PS3 was a slow stuttering inferior port of the 360 version that I played with friends.
I traded my copy in on Motorstorm.
Hell, it even ran better on my PC at the same resolution.
If 08 doesn't at least work without stuttering I won't be buying it.

i hate to agree here, but it's true. i'll believe the drastic improvements when i see them with my own two eyes. still, it's a definite blind buy...
Yung Impression 05-05-07, 02:37 AM yea im excited about Madden 08
Cyborg6971 05-05-07, 12:48 PM All I know is that it better have an option to set the controls to classic 05' and not force me to relearn everything all over again. And while their at it make hot routes for receivers the way it was in 05'.
INcowboy 05-05-07, 01:00 PM I am cautiously optimistic. The 360 version last year was pretty disappointing to me. It was missing a ton of features that were in the PS2 version especially in franchise mode. Ive been really disappointed in EA's sports lineup for the next gen gaming systems. The game play, franchise modes etc. have been crap. NBA 07 on the PS3 is just complete crap.

Ditto. Madden hasn't wowed me since the 1990s. I dig NCAA but it seems like they can't ever get it right with that title and with Madden as the leader you can pretty much bet it won't be right for N +1 Years where N = EA Getting Their Head Out of Their Ass. This is why competition is a good thing and why we all suffer when no one is allowed to challenge. End rant.

That's an unfair comparison. Gears is an exclusive title, so of course the code is optimized to run on the 360. It was developed with that console in mind from the beginning. NCAA will be released on virtually every console under the sun, so some compromises will be made. It's reasonable to expect that similar compromises will be made with the 2008 version, for both the PS3 and 360 versions.
You're also dealing with different companies in your comparison. EA hasn't exactly been on the cutting edge with these series, due to their exclusive licenses. So, even if they deliver a game that isn't perfect, they'll still sell a few million copies, at least for Madden.
I haven't been into Madden since the mid 90s. NCAA, on the other hand, is the 1 game I always have to get. One of the reasons I picked up a 360 was so I could play a "next gen" version of NCAA. Boy, was that disappointing. So yes...I am anxiously awaiting NCAA and even Madden this year.
Last year was the first time since the '94 edition that I did not purchase Madden. I think that the game peaked between the 03 and 05 editions, and has been in gradual decline since. It is frustrating that many of the gameplay flaws have existed for at least five years. Hopefully EA will make major strides this year or I will again be left with only one solid sports franchise (NBA 2k series). If only EA could have acquired the MLB exclusive license for MVP baseball.

Compromises, yes, but frame rate? Come on, thats something that both next gen consoles should have no problem with. EA is known to be a bit sloppy with the code and not the best when it comes to quality control.

I agree, Madden 05 is what I played the most on PS2, great blend of gameplay and new additions. I rented Madden 07 for the PS3 and almost laughed at how terrible it was. I think that EA should concentrate more on getting a solid/playable version out rather than bedazzle us with all the additions and "modes."

Did you play NFS:MW on the 360? That game was a dog as far as frame rate was concerned. It didn't even maintain 30 fps. I'm not trying to bash the 360 here, but the console does seem to have trouble maintaining a solid frame rate on some titles. There aren't enough titles out to yet to know if the PS3 will have similar problems, but we'll know soon enough.
Think about it from a PC perspective - one game may run at 60 fps on an Nvidia card, but a comparable ATi card only manages 50 fps. Then for another title, it's the exact opposite. Optimized coding has a lot to do with frame rates, especially when dealing with HD graphics. I don't care how powerful these systems supposedly are - rendering a fully textured and shaded environment in HD is difficult.
FINS 54 05-07-07, 07:12 PM Madden will have new features this year because 2k8 is coming out. Funny how a little competition brings about improvements.

"Supposedly" is the key word. 1080p 60fps with tons of detailed textures, fast movement and effects maxed is a lofty feat and we aren't there yet on the console side (hell even 720p with all the bells and whistles is challenging). On the PC side, we've just begun to get to that point and with the new games coming out we probably are not yet comfortably past that hurdle.

Yeah, I hope they just make it 720p if they can't get 60fps in 1080p.
dpe8598 05-07-07, 09:14 PM 07 was awful. This year is their last chance. Offer good game play and fast frames or they've lost me as a customer.
