View Full Version : Final Fantasy XIII
How many of you are awaiting this release.?
I wonder when it will be released.
I was reading at IGN, and it seems that it isn't exclusive. is this true?
that was one of the staples of Square. that they remained exclusive to 1 format throught the dealings with their games.
I haven't played FF since FF7,and 8.
I am a hardcore FF fan going all the way back to FF1,2,3.
FF7 was my first RPG for PsX, and was a groundbreaking game. I loved it.
(probably one of the very first immersive games I have ever played.)
so does anyone know anyting about this upcoming title?
thanks
joe_six_pack 05-03-07, 09:58 PM The main FFXIII should be exclusive. The square party mid may will confirm what titles are for what platform as of this point in time.
Final Evangelion 05-03-07, 10:00 PM We will know better in a week during the Square Enix Party, but from my understanding the FF XIII main game and versus will be PS3 only, while there are 4 other titles that will be spread out on the other consoles. So I think the main one is exclusive still.
My guess is that it will come out in late 2008 in Japan, and probably not until 2009 elsewhere. Just knowing Square Enix's release history. It looks awesome. Seen the trailer yet?
Just saw the trailer.
it kicks ass!
I don't wanna wait 2 years for the game.

So you've been out of the FF scene for nearly a decade now? (FF8 was released in 1998). Are you planning on playing FF9 - 12 or even 13?
Yep, they already had commercials in Japan about the game (as prematurely as it may be). I'm hoping they'll give us a demo soon. But the game itself won't be out this year, that's for near certain as confirmed by Square earlier this year...earliest we'll see an English language version may be late 2008 I'd speculate, but nobody really knows but Square.
I am trying to beat 12 while I wait. The game IS exclusive. But there will be other FFXIII titles that are released to other consoles as well.
Just like Final Fantasy XII Revanent wings is going to the DS
Heh I plan to buy FFXIII when it comes out in Japan. Been learning japanese on my own for a little over half a year. Hopefully I can understand enough to play the game when it comes out in Japan. I'd prefer not to wait for a US release... figure I have another year at least, so gotta get cracking. :)

Good luck. It'll probably be heavy on kanji (except for the cutscenes).
what I like about the ff games is you don't have to play the other games. most of the story lines and battle schemes are independant.
and no, I am not going to play the other FF games.
I am just going to play FF XIII when it comes out.

Thankfully kanji isn't that difficult. I know chinese, so they have similarities. (Japanese kanji based but modified from Chinese kanji.)

Wow....
I guess you're one of those people who finds learning different languages relatively easy. For whatever reason I took japanese in college. I barely passed with Cs & Ds. I think I'm retarded or something when it comes to learning a different language.
Anyways, at least you get to enjoy it before any of us gets it. :)

Oh learning Japanese is by no means that easy. Chinese language sentence structure is similar to US, so its not extremely difficult, just remembering the numerous kanji characters is the challenge. Japanese well... grammar is tough, their sentence structures are rather different from english.
Still learning and trying, its challenging but I enjoy it... yeah strange.

you are like me "mono-lingual" ;)
I love it when people ask if you are bi-lingual, and you say "no, but I AM mono-lingual" to them.....

the best way to learn any new language is not in school.
You move to the country and then it's sink or swim. spend a year somewhere where you don't speak the language.
come 365 days later. you will speak it well.
My cousin went to south america for 1 year. day 1 she couldn't speak spannish. come day 365 she was thinking in spannish.
JackBau3r 05-04-07, 03:37 PM Actually, FF8 was released on 9/9/9. The day of the Dreamcast launch (RIP).
FF8 is by far my favorite FF game next to FF7. FF9 was meh, and I hated FFX. Never got around to playing 12.

My fiance went to teach English in Japan for 3.5 years. She can only understand most of it, and cannot hold a conversation with a native speaker.

I think the only language I ever did well in was Spanish in high school and did decent with Japanese in college.
Here's the run down of languages I *attempted*, often failing/doing poorly:
1) German - high school course - failed
2) Spanish - high school course - passed
3) Chinese (Mandarin) - language school during my senior year of high school - poorly/failed (they stuck me in a class with kids that were in 1st and 2nd grade)
4) Chinese (Cantonese) - summer language school in college - did poorly
5) Chinese (Mandarin) - college - failed
6) Latin - college - did poorly
7) Japanese - college - passed
Damn those language requirements!

Heh yeah, sorry. I forgot FF8 came actually came out in 1999 not 1998...I remember FF7 coming out in 1997 and so deduced from that logic.
Oh, and I probably goofed up on FF8's date because it's my least favorite too.
Scott_lb 05-04-07, 07:08 PM Can anyone tell me if FFXII for the PS2 runs in progressive scan mode (like in God of War I and II)? I can pick it up for $30.00 but don't want to spend the money if it can't run in progressive. Thanks!
JackBau3r 05-04-07, 07:34 PM No pscan. Only widescreen.

Just to clarify: True widescreen.
Yes, the progressive scan is missed, as with all PS2 games, but the game is beautiful.

Thats crazy, I studied for 3 years on and off and can hold an ok convo. I wondered if she really tried to learn. From what I understand it is an attitude thing when it comes to learning a language. I will be living there starting June 1st and hopefully will become advanced by the time my 1 year stay is up. It also helps having some Japanese females friends to speak to. They think its cute when I try lol. But I can't wait to get the new games that come out over there.
Kanji is tough if you don't Chinese and ditto on the language requirements. I did bad in Spanish lol.

Well, the friends that she gained while in Japan were other English teachers. So, there wasn't much of a need to learn Japanese. And, any of her Japanese friends could speak some English as well, so she didn't really need to converse in Japanese with them either.
She is certified to read a bunch of kanji, and she can read katakana and hiragana. I have a few other friends who taught English in Japan for 2+ years, and they learned or refined their Japanese speaking comprehension. But, it seems like they put more of an effort into it. Plus, my fiance worked in Tokyo for the 3.5 years. My other friends were put out into the country, where they were one of two English teachers in the school.

Can anyone read the last kanji. This is off the square party website & shows the FFXIII game to be announced at the square party. If you remember correctly, in an interview, they mentioned this series would include the ps3, mobile phones, and something else.
I know it'll get announced in a week, so I'm just curious if anyone can actually read it. It says - PS3, ketai (phone), and ___.
Also, the site doesn't list The last remnant, so I'm wondering if it's one of the FFXIII titles?

If Sony wants to get serious about getting PS3's in people's hands, they should pay out of their pockets for SE to get this done.
modiGTI 05-08-07, 02:50 AM Forget 13, give us the 7 remake. =p
JackBau3r 05-08-07, 09:25 AM I want a FF7 and FF8 remake.
I want a FF7 and FF8 remake.
I'm for that!, my favorite FF games.
We all want it, but I don't think it's cost effective, and I think Square knows it.

Not that I could really read what the site was saying, but I think those were old artwork pics from E3 2005 or 2006 using the cell engine (FFVII pictures).
I'm doubtful square will ever remake 7, but I can't see how a remake wouldn't be sucessful. FFVII has a HUGE following.

Making that FFVII tech demo was probably one the smartest things Sony could have done to generate Hype for PS3.
Saleen4971 05-08-07, 06:51 PM yeah the technical demo was AMAZING. they really shoudl remake FF7 - IMO it would make a TON of cash.

You seem to be a big FF fan. Why wouldn't you want to play FF9, 10, or 12? You don't have to answer of course, I'm just curious.

It may be like my friend. I got him into Final Fantasy with FFVII. He loved it and has played every one after that. I told him about how great FFIV (2 US) and FFVI (3 US) were but he would never play them because for him the graphics are just as important as story and gameplay. Honestly he tried to go back and play VII again and couldn't make it through because he just hated the graphics now. Just a possibility.
Although X and XII still hold up very well even in this "new generation" of console gaming.
Been playing Final Fantasy since part 1.
I'm an FF fanboy. I will buy and play anything with the FF name attached to it and generally anything made made Square Enix.
Dungwader 05-09-07, 03:56 PM I didn't mention FFI simply because while it birthed the franchise, I enjoyed it, I really don't think it all that great. Especially in the NES days give me Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest 4 is the best game ever!!! /fanrave
