View Full Version : Anyone buy Gauntlet yet? DaveFi 05-04-07, 12:34 AM Any good? Online features? Mic? Worth the $5? joe_six_pack 05-04-07, 12:40 AM no. Im waiting for someone to say whether it has mic support or not todrigo 05-04-07, 12:56 AM No mic support as of release As a $5 d/l its a small file so you get it quick, it's fun, it's like the ROM arcade games in that you can put in infinite "quarters" during game play. I played a couple times online and then through about level 10 offline. Here are some of the problems. audio is loud in menu's then goes super quiet during game play, I can't even hear the Gauntlet theme in the back ground. I also remember being able to kill enemies through catty-corner blocks but can't in this one, it may just be a foggy memory from a misspent youth though. Online seems to be a little laggy for this game, may be my connection but I'm not laggy in other online games like R:fom or MS. Also online doesn't allow players to drop out or pop in. If a player drops out it's game over, I really think they need to change that. The game is a $5 port from a 20+ year old arcade, so expectations shouldn't be too high but I wish they would have spent the time they used to make a trailer for it on working out some bugs. It will probably be best used as an offline group game. joe_six_pack 05-04-07, 01:00 AM ^^ Dammit. Thanks for the review. Another user review at the PSU forum confirmed what you said. FrankJ.Cone 05-04-07, 06:53 AM I did not find Gauntlet on Live worth $5 and I cannot immagine Gauntlet II would be on PSN. The Gauntlet's were (IMHO) only fun if you were standing next to three other friends. Forgot not a lot of depth there was ZERO depth to these games. awx 05-04-07, 07:25 AM LOL, FrankJ.Cone is recommending that people not buy a PS3 game. But someone he knows liked it (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=8586973&&#post8586973). Rock Daddy 05-04-07, 07:33 AM I got it and like it but I like old school games. Its so cheap at $5 I dont have an issue with it. I mean lunch costs me twice that 4 times a week. :) As stated its just like the arcade game with infinite quarters. This beats most Wii VC games.... JMII 07-01-10, 11:37 AM Sorry to bring up a 1155 day old post  but its really the only thread I could find about Gauntlet II which is now only $2.50 thru PSN+ This is the ONLY game my wife will play since its a simple top-down co-op shooter. If there are any similar PS3 (or PSN/PS1) games out there please let me know. Back in the PS1 days there was "Loaded" which was similar. And many, many years ago there was "Demon Stalkers" on the Commodore 64, which still ranks in my ten :D Now for my question - can you SAVE your game? 99 levels with no saves is impossible! When you start a game it says "accessing hard drive" as if it is recalling a save, yet you always start at Level 1. What gives? :o dogdoctor 07-01-10, 01:40 PM Now for my question - can you SAVE your game? 99 levels with no saves is impossible! Others have commented that with PS1/PS2 games you need to create a virtual PS1/PS2 memory card on the PS3 to have the game save in. Otherwise, yes, it will default to starting over. Its not a PS1/PS2 game, nor did I see any menu options for saving thus my confusion. dogdoctor 07-01-10, 02:38 PM Thanks for the info I'll give that a shot tonight. Leo_Ames 07-02-10, 01:58 AM It's not a PSOne or PS2 title so it's not going to do him any good. It's a Playstation 3 title. JMII 07-02-10, 10:47 AM Sad to report: no way to save :( really stupid, I know the game is all about simulating the arcade good-ness of days gone by, but honestly a game with 99 levels and no save option in 2010? Unacceptable. There is a PS3 game save, but I believe it just for preferences (screen size) and maybe high scores. Pretty bummed since the wife loves the game but only in short bursts which means we'll never beat it in co-op mode. |
