On the RCA 8030N I have, sometimes when I want to transfer from a title in the library of the HDD to a DVD,
the entire movie plays as it copies and its VERY long to wait. (the whole movie plays as it copies) There is NO high speed copying at all.
Other times, but very FEW times, its very fast-----a box with % of transferring comes up while its tranferring and its done like in only 30 to 45mins and doesnt play the movie while its doing this.
Does anyone know how to stop this from playing the whole movie and just let it copy faster?
I tried changing recording quality and turning on/off the Smartrecord but its the same.
Seems to happen when the movie is recorded on "high" or 2 speed only but the movies only like 1.5 hrs and a disc holds more than this so I dont get it.
thnx

I assume the DVR is a separate box from the DVD recorder? As far as I know, DVD recorders can only do high speed copies from a hard drive that is internal to the DVD recorder that is doing the DVD recording. The computer inside the DVD recorder has to be in control of the RPM of both units. So if that is true, you can't do high speed copies from an external DVR.

In that case, maybe you have a menu item set wrong. On my Panasonic E100, in order to do a high speed dub from the hard drive to a DVD-R, the high speed mode must have been set when recording the program to the hard drive originally. Then when I want to do a copy from the hard drive to a DVD-R I have to select "high speed" in the dubbing menu at the time I am doing the dub. Yours may not work that way but your manual should tell you if you can find the section on "High Speed" dubbing or copying.

hey dave thnx but the rca manual is pretty crappy lol
I read thru all the posts in the "new at wal mart" thread but none ever
said anything about high speed dubbing but I understand what you are saying.
Its kinda so dumb to have to sit thru a whole movie again to put it on a DVD.
Just go to bed, I guess, and let it copy.
lame but this is what I got to work with.
thnx

I know what you mean. My old E100 with it's 4X burner will copy a 2 hour SP program in 15 minutes. You probably have a 8X burner so yours should do a 2 hour SP program in 8 minutes. Besides that, high speed dubbing allows me to retain chapter marks that I have placed where I want them on the hard drive. I would be lost without "high speed dubbing" mode.

Hello Boo,
First turn off SmartRecord. You can confirm this by exporting a video that is too big to fit. The unit should not allow you to do it. If it does SmartRecord must be enabled. Another possibility is the disk does not have as much available space a you think it does. You can see this on the export screen also.
I archive stuff all the time and my unit never plays the video real time. That would piss me off.
The manual is terrible, but I love this thing. I even bought one for my mother at list price. It is too expensive but until an ATSC HD unit it available it is the best thing out there IMO.

HI. Thank you. that worked. unfortunately the DVD got stuck twice while finalizing and then copying. Had to pull out AC. Then it did it again so we returned it to Wal Mart and got a Panny EH75VS. I like the RCA better but that was second one with dvd stuck issues.
