I removed a recordable disc tonight and when I put a new one in I got a message it can't read the disc. It can't read any disc's I put in it, blank, full, store bought movie. It also tries to read the disc and gives me the can't read message when I close the drawer with no disc in it. Anyone have any ideas? the unit has worked fine since January.

Similar problem here mate. I popped in about 10 different kinds of DVDs (DVD+R, DVD-R, RW, different speeds including 4x, 8x and 12x), none of them were readable. One of them prompted me to format, I hit OK, and the unit idled for a few seconds, and then turned off. I haven't actually used the device for recording onto DVDs yet, I was just trying to circumvent buying a TV tuner for our old camera. It plays store bought movies fine, but it can't read blank disks.

Try this easy-to-do test:

1. Set ES46 clock manually.

2. Turn DST OFF.

(Many Pannys and some other brands are having lots of problems caused by the diff. timing/tracking for the new DST schedule, which the units were not programmed for.)
