View Full Version : Spidey 3
For those of you who picked this up at midnight, anyone play this for the PS3 yet?
Please comment on the graphics/framerates (if it studders during heavy graphics), and how it is playing with the Sixaxis controller!
I played SM3 on the PC, and it looks great (maxed out settings on 50in LCD 1080p) but even with a GeForce 7900 the graphics stutters a bit, and i'd rather play this using a controller, than a keyboard/mouse on my lap.
i'll probably pick up the collectors edition regardless... :)

Pick up a 360 controller.
McDermotX 05-04-07, 10:35 AM Can't answer your question about the PS3 one kenchi,
slightly on-topic though............how is the PC one ?, does it appear to be the same game thats on the 360 and PS3? (i.e. not some different game with same packaging, adverts etc...)
I am importing the PS3 one, but I won't have it until next week, so I'm sure someone else will have commented on it by then..
Cheers
timberdoodle 05-04-07, 10:39 AM Pick up a 360 controller.
the ps3 controller also works on the computer.

That's right. Didn't think of that.
That Linux demo of the motion sensor what pretty cool stuff.
IGN review up 6.0, I still bought it anyway. It mentions the 360 version has a smoother framerate, bummer:

GW-SMOkeY 05-04-07, 01:33 PM Let me just say that the movie rocked! It was akward seating up close to that HD screen, but hey I got to see it on the opening night. Anyway, from the recent reviews I hear this game is not the best. As I recall it, IGN calls this "A fresh coat of paint on Spidey 2 arch" they also state "it is not worth the PS3, graphically" Like if they didnt bother to do anything. So... Anyone with the game and suggestions please pass it on.
ppshooky 05-04-07, 01:50 PM Let me just say that the movie rocked!
Were you a) drunk, b) high, c) watching the correct movie, or d) all of the above?
I caught the midnight showing and regret it! The movie was total crap. I loved the second movie, thought the first one was alright, this one was, by far, the worst.

Drunk, high and watching the correct movie. Sounds like a good time! :D
sbarrier 05-04-07, 09:02 PM I thought it was great, the best of the 3.
ArcticHaze 05-04-07, 09:33 PM There were like a gazillion story lines combined in that Movie... that made it sucky.
Got the Collector's Edition.
To answer my own question from the OP:
The Collectors Edition ALSO comes with $10 in Concession Cash (not advertised on the cover like the Standard Version) which is good for those who were wondering...
The framerate is very good on the PS3 compared to the PC version. Almost too good, and too fast sometimes. The graphics are 720p though, and can't goto 1080p like the PC can...so not as crisp edges on graphics.
Other than that, the PC version and PS3 versions are pretty much identical (except for Goblin on Collectors)... I prefer using the Sixaxis MUCH better than keyboard/mouse....and easier and more natural to use.
I've got a couple hours in on this so here are my thoughts:
It plays alot like Spiderman 2 and Ultimate Spiderman. If you liked those games you'll probably like Spiderman 3.
The graphics are a mixed bag. Spidey looks great. Non-spandex characters look a little blocky and their faces are textured like an old catcher's mitt. The city itself looks ok. Animations seem about the same as the last couple games. I've run across a handful of glitches. Clipping, floating, twitching, etc.
A few other thoughts. The GOW like events add a nice change of pace. The ceiling camera tracking is disorientating. The main missions are now separated from the side missions. So if you want to skip the races and junk you can.
Overall I like it. Nothing real impressive but I liked the previous Spidey games and this has more of same which isn't necessarily bad.
anavrin0901 05-05-07, 03:32 AM To hell with the critics...this film f*&^$'n rocked! Makes part 1 and 2 look like nothing! This movie had it all and while I was very apprehensive of the three villians they did a great job of tying them all in and the Batman villian factor that I feared most was at ease. I finally found myself feeling like the $8 spent to see this was well worth it. I got my money's worth and more. And this will be an incredible disc to own on Blu Ray. I cannot wait! I left the theatre pumped and that is a rare feeling but a treat to know this will someday grace my 1080P LCD screen. As not being a really big fan of parts one and two this one did me in...Spiderman Forever!
Cysquatch 05-05-07, 01:43 PM Is the topic "spidey 3" as in the game or the movie? My 17 year old watched it last night and was thoroughly unimpressed.
On to the game. Gamefly just shipped it yesterday. Will give you my thoughts as soon as it arrives.
99.9% of the time superhero games suck ass so the expectation bar isn't set too high.
Irunnoft 05-05-07, 06:25 PM I thought it was great, the best of the 3.
I agree and I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, etc. It was an awesome movie. The guy who just bashed the movie was doing it because it was cliche. . . a shortcut to thinking. It's a common route for grues to take! ;)

GS says the same regarding the framerate, but GS also says that on the flip side, the ps3 version is slightly less aliased, so its a matter of give and take.
minor spoilers below, i guess.
as for the movie, i thought that too much of it focused on the relationship with PP and MJ and it needed more action (specifically, more venom/spidey battles). i thought it was good, but i liked the first two better.
playstat88 05-06-07, 01:51 AM About the movie not the game:
I saw it at an IMAX, oh man those special effects were AWESOME - one fight scene after another! While I liked the movie overall, I was VERY disappointed with how they just kinda "threw" venom into the plot. Venom was my favorite villian (no way I'm alone with that opinion), and I think he deserved at least one movie where he was the sole bad guy. If not more than one movie. Maybe even an entire trilogy devoted to spidey vs. venom (maybe throw carnage in there too)! Sandman, on the other hand, didn't seem as "thrown in" to the plot, and I thought he was pretty awesome throughout the movie. Except for the poorly explained part where he gets his powers. What was that lab trying to do with the sand???

Its cliche to bash a movie??? Look, this movie is being panned by a lot of people...including myself. It felt rushed and a lot was unexplained....A tons been mentioned by I will list a few: Slight Spoilers:
1. Where the hell did Venom come from? They never explained it. Just fell out of the sky? Nice set up. Spidey 2, I thought, was setting up Venom with JJJ's son, but alas it was not to be.
2. Harry to his Butler..."Hey thanks for the ****ing tip there Jeeves. Don't you think this info could have been more useful to me say, I don't know, two YEARS AGO! Now my face its all ****ed up and I'm going to kick the can!"
3. Like some one else said...what the hell was that lab doing with the sand? And why in NYC?
bloye881 05-07-07, 09:51 AM Got a few questions for those who played the game... some of the side mission cut sequence animation... does it cut off a little quick? (i haven't play far into the game... I do notice about 2 missions... the cut in sequence animation were cut off too early before the guy finish talking or something) I wasn't too impress with the graphic quite honesty, I would expect a little more like tekken 5 or VF 5 type of level if not a bit lower... of coz with such a huge city and all...
Btw I do agree about some of the stuff about the movie... Venom was a little sort of added in compared to sandman... then again sandman supposedly the main villain... then others just mix and added in... anyway speaking too much here :P

Are you sure you weren't drunk, high or watching the correct movie? Never amazes me how 'other people' are the crazy ones when they like a movie.
I have played every spiderman game that has come out and this one is the best. with that said it is not a huge improvement over spiderman 2. I bought the CE PS3 version and am happy so far. the camera tracking during fight scenes sucks and is probably the worst part of the game along with none spandex characters graphics. swinging through the city is amazing and fighting the gangs is better than it has been in other spidey games. the boss battles are crazy long in sp3 and can get somewhat frustating, but then again I will take that over a game that you can breeze through. also, the cut sequences that you require you to do something are cool and visually pleasing. I love the button smashing (if you want to call it that) part of this game, some of the moves spidey does are just brutal and hillarious to watch. I am only 17% complete and just unlocked the new goblin so I will check back latter and let you know how the sixaxis controls work. BOTTOM LINE>>if you are a spidey fan definitley get this game, but if you are looking for the next amazing game for your next gen system I would just rent it.
PS> the movie was full of story lines that weren't fully explain and required some previous knowledge of the characters but remeber this is a comic book movie and for that it was visually amazing and wrapped up the trilogy nicely. this will be a must own blu-ray for me.
Movie was good, game is ok (360). Not blown away.
I'm mostly disappointed in how similar to the original XBox game it is. It's like they dusted it off 2 months ago, put a new coat of paint on, and re-released.
I'm going to start the Goblin storyline tonight, though, so hopefully it gets better.
modiGTI 05-07-07, 01:28 PM I was about to rent the game, but I'll wait till I watch the movie first.
I really liked the movie. There was a lot going on and they could have had a movie for each villian but it still worked.
That said, the framerate is HORRIBLE on this game !!! If you play in HD it's choppy, choppy, choppy. I have the Collectors edition and my nephew got it on the 360 and it's choppy on his too. I'm an HD buff and choppy framerates are extremely distracting to me.
Got the Collector's Edition.
To answer my own question from the OP:

Where did you buy yours from? I got mine from BB and the only ones that had the $10 concession cash was the standard editions.

I got Collectors edition at BB on opening day.
The $10 Check is located inside the Instruction manual in the middle -- you need to remove it from the staples. Already used the coupon! :)
I was suprised there was a sticker on the cover for the Standard version about the $10 coupon, but nothing was on the Collectors edition (thought it should have been the other way around to sell more CE)

Nothing in mine. The 3D card thing is all I got in mine.

Hmm.. did you get it on opening day? Maybe there was only a limited #, or mine was a fluke? did anyone else get the $10 coupon in the CE version?
bloye881 05-10-07, 01:55 AM I didn't get 10 coupon as well... all i got is that stupid collection card... plus i got the game the day it came out -_-

Got it the Thursday it came out. BB just rolled the cart out that had them on it :( .
chokeslam 05-11-07, 03:48 PM My impressions so far-
-Graphics are very disappointing as expected. NPC's look atrocious.
-Camera is extremely frustrating and is ruining the game for me. The only time the camera works properly is when you're webslinging through the city.
-Framerate hasn't been a problem for me yet but I've only played a couple hours into the game.
-Webslinging is not as much fun as it was in SM2
-NYC is huge compared to SM2.
-QTE's come unexpectedly but are still fun. I'm a big fan of QTE's, BTW.
Overall, it's a better game than SM2 but that isn't saying much... I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. If you're a big Spider-man fan like I am, it's a worth a rental but that's it.
I just got the black suit and had an amazing battle with sandman. the graphics and camera work was really pretty good. I say if you are a huge spidey fan this is the best spidey game out so why not. it is not a huge improvement over #2 but it was rushed to come out with the movie. this game is getting funner for me with the crazy combos spidey does and web swinging is fun as hell. the main frustration is with how tough the mini bosses are for the gangs. they have a lot of health and block everything.
I did try some of the goblin levels but using the six axis is way too hard for me. its a cool concept and would be fun once you got the hang of it.

Venom420-
Any tips, or how did you defeat new goblin? He keeps hitting me w/fireballs and seems to block everything... i like the game, frustrating at times, but more of a "good" frustration...meaning I don't mind trying over and over to beat a boss.
(e.g. "bad" frustration would be something like Sonic) ;)
bloye881 05-14-07, 03:02 PM I hope they add a patch or something to fix up the gay camera issue as well as some other off the wall bugs... Since this game already taken like 2.6 gig of space... may as well take another 2 to fix all the ****** bugs
Hey Kenchi
I have not defeated the goblin yet, I only fought him on the sled. I have not completed the lizard story or the kingpin story yet. I am having a hard time beating the dragon gangs boss. his four body guards kick my butt everytime. have you fought the sandman or scorpion yet. those are some serious battles. i am like you I don't mind the frustrating bosses (as long as they're not ridiculous). i would rather have a long challenging game than one you can breeze through. this game grows on you for sure, way better than #2.
Venom420
I have been playing the kingpin for 3 days now and was on the verge of beating him when I HAD MY FIRST FREEZE UP!!!!! I could have killed some one. You have to devote like a hour to beat the kingpin, gang leaders, and then kingpin again!!!! I had it beat like 5 times but I kept F*&*^% up the button sequence at the end and then he would cheapshot me and kill me since I had no life. This is definitley a frustrating fight, it reminds me of the boss battles on the first game. I hope I can beat him next time because that is the only current mission I have available. I don't know how to activate the other missions. Anybody else out there have any SPIDEY 3 comments???????
