I downloaded Wipeout for the PS1 on the PS3 yesterday and I have to say, I am disspointed with it.
I was well aware that it would be running at 480p and "look" like a PS1 game, but I guess I incorrectly assumed it would at least be adjusted for 16x9 play.
Its still a fun game, but I feel that the Xbox Live Arcade does a few more tweaks than the current batch.
Anyone else care to share their opinion?

I still have some of the PS1 games offered on original PS1 disc. Might go for Wipeout XL if offered (my kids ended up losing it somehow). Has anyone tried comparing PS3 DL to original PS1 issue games?

I got Crash Bandicoot. It seems to look better on the DL than with original PS1 games. I hope they give us Resident Evil like they did with Japan, because I haven't played it yet when PS1 was around.

I actually enjoy playing them on the PSP more.

They should be exactly the same. The DL is essentially a converted ISO image of the game, played via an emulator.
In theory, it should be possible to illegally DL a PS1 ISO, convert it, and play it on the PS3. It can be done on the PSP, as well as with the original disk.

Can anyone explain Crash Bandicoot? I was into Tekken back with the PS1 and few others. Is this worth $5?

Crash was quite the stunning platformer in PS1 days. Not sure how well it holds up but if you've never play a Crash game $5 seems reasonable to me...

So you can't even switch to 16 x 9? My TV won't stretch it to that over hdmi...so that all sucks big time.
Are these games outputting at 480p? Cause win I play old PS1 games from disc I switch output to composite and 480i cause over hdmi it looks like crap..

Jumping Flash would be better if they let me use the analog stick in place of the d-pad for movement via a software update to the PSbutton menu. Switching analog and digital mode did not work.
How are the controls for wipeout? I believe the original wipeout pre-dates the analog sticks -- so does the download support the sticks? Playing the ps1 wipeouts with the negcon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeGcon) was almost heaven. Would be cool if the negcon was mapped to the sixaxis tilt controls.

The controls are good for how I remember them, but you are right, there is no analog support so that does suck. Wipeout was meant to be played using some kind of analog stick for better control, but not the first one.

The game came out at the PSX launch, those primitive pre-analog days.
