I am a big NASCAR fan and disappointed that the All-Race is on Speed as it will be broadcast in SD. I would think DirecTV would take advantage of the fact that Fox will use their HD cameras to broadcast this, and offer a "special events" broadcast or a SpeedHD "preview" by simulcasting the HD versions of this race on another channel. I would love to see this race in HD and I would think many others would also.

It seems like it would be simple and inexpensive from a corporate standpoint as Speed/Fox is owned by News Corp and DirecTV is/was with them. It also seems like a good way to promote DirecTV HD by being the only available outlet of the All-Star race in HD.

If anyone has any inside contacts at DirecTV, I would be very curious about this.

As a provider, D* has nothing to do with the issue; it's all up to Speed.

Thanks Ken.

I emailed Speed to ask them about this.

Don't kid yourself. Its not Fox or D* that makes this decision. You want action, email NASCAR. They are the 800 lbs gorilla. Its their "Nascar Digital images" cameras which are recording the races.

Correct, but between Fox and Directv (ahem, Murdoch), they have some weight when it comes to Nascar.

This is one of the times that TSN whoops up on Speed. The Canadians have gotten this in HD for a year or two now.

This issue has nothing to do with Nascar digital images. They just provide production support for the networks that broadcast the races. This is a distribution issue totally in the hands of Speed / News Corp.
