these numbers include movies available, and movies up for pre-order on Amazon
Warner Bros.

Paramount

Blu-Ray 27
Now I give Dreamworks a pass because they just entered the High Def arena, but why is Paramount dragging their feet? They don't even have that many movies available because of how the available titles are counted i.e. MI Boxset and MI:I, MI:II, MI:III count as 4 even though it is 3 films.
Paramount, pick up the pace
Adam Tyner 05-04-07, 09:18 PM I will admit to being a bit disappointed that their recent DVD release of Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief didn't hit Blu-ray and HD DVD. They're doing a decent job with their more prominent catalog titles, though.

Yeah, Paramount's movies have had very good PQ. MI:III is one of the best out there. I guess I'd wait and have slower release with MI:III quality PQ, but Paramount just seems to be dragging their feet.
Kram Sacul 05-04-07, 09:22 PM I think the word is hesitant.

I guess if you say so. I think Braveheart, the Star Trek Films, Forrest Gump, the Indiana Jones films and Titanic count as prominent catalog titles and I’ve not even heard an announcement about those films.
It’s sad that a small studio like Weinstein can almost keep up with Paramount releases. It’s downright pathetic that a studio like Lion’s Gate can totally destroy Paramount in number of releases.
26 titles compared to what Universal and WB have done does not even constitute "pace"...the others are at least somewhat running, Paramount is walking, with a cane, into a headwind, in the snow, on no rest, with a cramp in one leg, and carrying a sack of rocks. :D
Seriously, they have a GREAT selection, sooner or later we'll get 'em. :)

The dvd was awesome, I would the like 5 hr cut on HD DVD, what a great movie. Can you image The Italian country side in HD.
De Niro, Depardieu, Sutherland, Lancaster directed by Bertolucci, does it get any better

I refuse to pick on Paramount without mentioning Fox as well. Both of these studios need to "pick up the pace." A lot of us here are willing to buy a lot of their movies, they just need to release them so we can. ;)
JackBee 05-05-07, 10:00 AM Why would you want them to pick this up?

For Blu-ray exclusives, why did you include Sony, but omit Fox, MGM, Disney, and Lionsgate?

I didn't want to waste my time including every studio, you can go to hdgamedb.com and look for yourself to see all 20+ studios. I also didn't include Weinstein or the pornography releases on HD DVD, even though I don't know where to get those numbers.
This thread is about Paramount doing a poor job relative to other major studios, it is not about exclusive support.
darinp2 05-05-07, 01:38 PM This thread is about Paramount doing a poor job relative to other major studios, it is not about exclusive support. If we put ourselves in Paramount's shoes (or somebody being paid by Paramount to look out for their interests), then we should see that holding out on content actually gives them more power later, since they can use it to try to sway things the direction they want or get things they want. If they shoot their whole load early then it decreases what they can use later. I would also love to see them come out with their best stuff, but understand that it is likely that it isn't in their best interest. They have been releasing enough to not make too many people mad, while also holding back enough to use later.
Being the lead dog and doing the heaviest pulling isn't necessarily the most profitable tactic, while not pulling at all is likely to upset others. I'm guessing that all of these studios would prefer that the other studios do the heavy pulling to get one or both of these formats off the ground.

FoolintheRain 05-05-07, 05:01 PM I for one would actually like Tomb Raider 2. They released the first one...why not the 2nd? It was a better movie too IMHO. Just curious.
Other's in my SD DVD collection that I would rebuy (in addition to the ones already mentioned):
Airplane
Better Off Dead
Clue
Ferris Beuler's Day Off
Footloose
Godfather Trilogy
Grease
Major League
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Pretty in Pink
Private Parts
School of Rock
Scrooged
Some Kind of Wonderful
Tommy Boy
Top Gun
Wayne's World
Not to mention, many of these have come out in the last year or 2 with re-releases that were remastered on SD DVD. I'm guessing this would have been done so in HD.
Add to that the Indy Trilogy, Forrest Gump, Titanic, Star Trek everything, and Braveheart. I'd say they could easily sell a big chunk of HD DVDs/BD if they wanted to.
On a side note I can't believe we have never gotten a better version of Braveheart released! A 10yr anniversary would have been a no-brainer back in '05. What is the deal?
They keep teasing us with Team America and Lemony Snickets on their trailer intro also and there has not been a peep about dates for those titles. Surprising.
