This is a new unit. Initially it would stop at 90% on the download tape & I would get a message that it did not reboot. Now a few hours later it will not take a download at all - stays ay 0% on the tape.

Was a bad USB cord. DL is working now.

I have it set up & its working really great, am ordering a second one for the bedroom setup, but was wondering about a few of the buttons.

Typically what are the up & down brackets in the box used for?

It's really up to you. :)

In Activity mode, I tend to use them for Page Up/Page Down commands. On my HD-Tivo, I use them for Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down. In Device mode, I always use them for a discrete Power On/Power Off.

So they are pretty much used as, do it yourself - as needed, programmable keys.
