Hello everyone,
My main speakers are full-range with built-in subwoofers. My receiver has two settings for the main speakers, SMALL (crossover at 90 Hz, sends below to subwoofer) or LARGE. It also has the option for the subwoofer out to be ON or OFF.

Is it generally better to send all the information through the main speaker cables, or should I send the bass information separately through RCA cables and the receivers subwoofer out?

Thanks!

I'd have to know more about your connection options to really give an accurate answer, but as a guess:

If you have separate RCA inputs for the sub, then I would set the reciever to "Small" for the mains, set sub to be on, and run a cable from the LFE out of the receiver to the inputs on the sub.

If there is no separate input for the sub on the speakers, then set the speakers to Large, and the sub to off.

Hi Peter,
Thanks.

Yes, each tower has its own subwoofer input (RCA). I would have to use a Y-splitter out of my receiver's subwoofer out.

Then that would be the optimal way to hook it up I would think. The subs wouldn't function at all without it.

That should do it!
