ive searched the forums and haven't had much luck w/ anything. i have a samsung lns2651-d and an oppo 981hd dvd player. i notice this combo has a lot of marcoblocking. i also have a comcast digital cable dvr box connected via hdmi as well and i notice some macroblocking there as well. does anyone have a link specifically to settings to use for this tv or line of tvs that i could adjust to get rid of the macroblocking. also how much do changing the settings affect the pq?

For tips on tuning the display, you should ask in the LCD forum.

For tips on tuning the Oppo to reduce macroblocking, see: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7270763&&#post7270763

Isn't the Samsung an LCD? Enhanced macroblocking from DVDs is rather rare on LCDs. Are you sure that is what you are seeing?

I also have not heard of MB with Faroudja players and LCDs. Considering you're also seeing it with cable, I suspect you're seeing some other kind of artifact. In any case, get yourself a calibration DVD such as AVIA to optimize your settings and reduce the artifacts..

actually, faroudja players are the ones that DO macroblocking. all samsungs display MB, i have owned enough to know and the faroudja/samsung combo is by far the worst for MB. the you can tame it with samsung displays to a good degree, but it will still be there. any non-faroudja players will not exhibit this such as mediatek, the new denon 2930/3930, etc.

Anthony, yes, the problem is the Faroudja chip, but it is only a problem with certain displays, most commonly DLPs and plasmas. I have not heard of it being a problem with LCDs, whether samsung or any other LCD brand. Samsung DLPs is another story (big MB problem).
