I was thinking about getting a good HDTV for like $3000, but since the technology is chaning SO FAST, I was thinking maybe I should buy a monitor that has better picture quality than even the Pioneer 1080P Elites of the world, but at a fraction of the price with the downsides of screen size and weight.
Maybe I should wait an year or two to get a BIG 1080P Flat Panel Display
Is it possible to use a 24" CRT like this as a 1080P display for Bluray or for 1080I HD programming? I was thinking that maybe I could use it in my bedroom.
I was thinking that the 16:10 ratio will be much better for 4:3 material than a 16:9 display would be.
Anyway, here's the monitor I was talking about.

I assume you already have an HDTV tuner with an RGB output? I toyed with the idea myself, since I have a Samsung SIR-T451 that has both RGB and DVI outputs. After connecting my 19" Viewsonic LCD monitor and watching HDTV on it for a few hours, it just seemed too small for everyday use, even for a bedroom.

I think that this setup would only work if you plan to sit very close to this monitor, like maybe a foot or so away as if it were a computer monitor. Sitting any further away, you won't really be able to appreciate the finer dot pitch and detail. Also the price seems a little steep, especially since those XBR970's are going for around $599. Finally, I would be afraid of getting a refurb unit that had already been returned by someone else, since these monitors are no longer being manufactured. And if you do get a defective unit, how are they going to replace it?

So anyway, that's my opinion, FWIW.
