I recently put a software upgrade on my Samsung LCD panel that enabled 1 to 1 pixel matching to stop overscanning. While watching the Simpsons tonight there are a couple of lines displayed between the top of the 4x3 side bars and the top of the display. In that area you can clearly see the rest of the image as if it was created in 16x9. If Fox is making the show in 16x9 why are the masking it to 4x3?

Its nothing. (its the top portion of each side being repeated)

This has been discussed before.

Yeah, it's the top couple of lines of the 4:3 image stretched to 16:9. If you look at them closely, you'll see these lines don't match up with anything in the 4:3 area below it.
