Can someone help?
I am trying to connect my Alienware M-7590 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 card to my HD70 to play blue ray movies. The laptop has a blue ray player and a DVI-D connecter out. I am using a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to the HD70. When playing SD DVDs everything works great but when I try a blueray disk I get an error on my laptop saying I cannot play the requested resolution. The laptop, cable and projector are all HDCP compliant (that least that’s what is claimed by each tech support). i have trying 720 and 1080 resolutions both returning the same error. Does anyone here have a idea what I need to do? All advise is greatly appreciated.

Can you force the resolution to 720p or 1080i/p?

Yes, I can force it and I did try without success. Is there any way to test individual components for HDCP compliance? Be it the DVI port/cable with some software.

I'd go look in the HTPC forum and I'd call Alienware. I assume the BDs play fine on the laptop screen. Getting the ATI card to do HTPC may be the key.

There are two things that can be affecting this:
1) make sure you laptop is not in "dual display" mode. Get it so that the LCD on the laptop is completely off, and the only video stream is going through the DVI connector. I've heard that this is a rule that the PCs have to follow (don't ask me why, just stating some empirical data here)
2) the BD playback software may be the key piece here. It is responsible for the whole job of seeing if the content requires encryption, communicating with the OS to make sure all the other data ports are secure, and communicating with the HDMI hardware to initiate authentication and check that it was successful. I suggest that you work with the playback software vendor to see if they have a patch that might fix it.
