View Full Version : Buying at Costco: what do I "sacrifice?"

Like many, I've put off my first HDTV purchase until 1) the prices went down and 2) Costco began carrying sets with 1080p. Well, as most of you know, that day has come.

Sure, I'm still undecided about LCD, DLP or Plasma, but since I want to buy the most set for my money, I'd love to get it at Costco, but I suspect there may be a drawback or two. This set will be for television viewing ONLY, no games or computers, so help me out.

A) Should I just pick the model that best fits my size/space requirements regardless of it's "light engine?"

B) Will I "lose" in any way by purchasing from Costco and having a pro do the setup?

Thanks and happy viewing.

You can find sets for cheaper online and from forum sponsors.

Their return policy on TV sets is only good for 90 days which is a change made this year.

EDIT: For clarification

I got one there a couple weeks ago and the return policy is 90 days. The Costco Concierge service adds another year to the manufacturer's one year warranty.

That would be their return policy.

You can return the TV for any reason during the first 90 days and have a free two year warranty afterwards. Still the best in the business.

The selection is good enough for most people. You should find what you like there unless you are really into having the best possible PQ at any price.

I have noticed most of the TV sets from my local Costco have been opened and repackaged, especially the largers sets 56" and up.

Those must be floor models. I was at my COSTCO today and they were all packed fine. I bought my 50" plasma and it was packed perfectly.
