View Full Version : Copying Programs On DCT 6416 To VCR

I have programs that have been recorded on my Motorola DCT 6416 III. I want to find a way to connect a VCR to it so I can dub the programs off to a VCR.

My VCR has composite inputs. If I understand diagrams of the 6416 right, it has composite outputs, too. But it only has two audio outputs and they are connected (along with the component video outputs) to my HDTV. I think I can connect the composite video (yellow wire) to the VCR but, short of reconnecting the audio out (red and white) or splitting them, is there another way to get the audio to the VCR? I'd like to have simultaneous output to the TV and VCR so I can see what I'm doing.

Or is there a totally different way I should be going about this?

How about you post this here.

Why? That thread seems to be a grab bag of various problems. It has drifted far away from the original intent. Why should I take it in yet another direction?

Simple, just hook the composite video and RCA L/R audio from the DVR into the input on the back of the VCR, then hook the L/R audio from the back of the VCR into the back of the TV. Keep the component video cables direct to the HDTV.

Not sure how much audio lag this might introduce though, and the VCR would have to be kept on, and tuned to the inputs all the time.

OK, but I'd prefer not to leave the VCR on all the time. In fact, I don't even plan to leave it connected most of the time.

But, considering your suggested configuration, would it be better to just split the audio out of the 6416 and feed it into both the TV and the VCR? Would it reduce or eliminate the audio lag you mention?

Audio lag? In analog circuits? Har...
No, just get a Y-cable for audio and forget it (Split the analog audio out of the motorola box)

Worked fine. Put a splitter on each audio connection and sent one to the VCR. Also put a separate cable to connect the 6416 Video Out to the VCR. Once I figured out to put the VCR on the appropriate inputs (L1 in my case) it all worked fine. I'm dubbing off a program right now.
