I always heard that RGB is simply the best for any ANALOG type display.
That's what they use in Medical Grade and Professional Arcade Monitors.
Since the signal can stay RGB from the PPU all the way to the RGB guns, that means that there's no filtering, processing etc to reduce picture quality.
Wouldn't HDMI be a step DOWN compared to RGB for RGB based Analog Displays like CRTS? I would think that RGB would be better than HDMI for SED too.
I think DVI/HDMI is probably only better for Digital Displays like Plasmas, LCDs, OLEDs, LCOS, etc.

While, this may be true. Try finding a CRT HDTV with RGB inputs. Manufacturers won't spend the money to this because, like it or not, CRT HDTV's are dis-appearing anyway.

I think I've heard that although SED technology is similar to CRTs it will actually work digitally rather than analog. That is if SED ever even happens, of course.

Analog RGB won't necessarily be better than HDMI. It depends on the quality of the TV's digital to analog conversion. Our video signal are digital these days, so that conversion will have to happen at some point no matter what connection is used.
