How can I view this hard drive without my UTV which burnt out. I have every episode of South Park on it and the Janet Jackson Superbowl...lol. Anyway, is it possible for me to view this hard drive w/o an UTV receiver? Or can I somehow use it in another UTV receiver. I heard I cannot. Is there UTV software that I can put on a partitioned hard drive on my PC? :(
Thanks,
Mike

Sorry there Emender. Your drive may still be good, but the contents are now toast. That drive was married to that UTV receiver. If you put that drive into another UTV, the replacement UTV will then marry itself to that drive, do a reformat and try to dial out for a fresh OS install.

There have been attempts in the past to try and get shows off the UTV drive, but I think those that tried lost interest before a successful solution was developed. I had a link bookmarked where a user going by BlueCop, I believe, came real close to solving this issue, but the link seems to be invalid or dead now.

Look in the FAQ section for instructions on how to wipe the drive and reuse it in a PC or external case.

Hi,

Not to enliven something that may be better left "dead"... But there may be a way to carry over the hard drive contents (via a "ghost" image) to another hard drive and reinstall in the same UTV without loss of contents (Same Hard Drive size). Now as for transfering the contents to a completely different UTV I'm not so sure about that...

Depending how "burnt out" your UTV is... You might be able to temporarily "swap" over to the "bad" UTV from a "good" UTV using your access card and "refreshing" DTV service via the website.

This will allow you to "dump" your A/V treasures over time. Assuming your burnt out UTV just has a bad tuner and isn't resetting at random moments.

Best of luck.
