When I had standard cable, I built a Windows MCE DVR. I had 3 tuners in it, and used 2 xboxes as Media Center Extenders. This would allow me to record TV as well as watch live TV. I have since switched to DishNetwork (the local crappy cable company upped prices to over $50 for standard). Now I have an SD DVR from Dish, and it works pretty well. It has 2 tuners, and anything I record on one tuner, I can watch on the other (I have the DVR connected to 2 TVs.)

Now, I've recently added OTA HD and would like to be able to record it. However, I really hate the idea of adding another layer of complication to my TV viewing (actually I don't want to hear my wife talk about how complicated our TV's are). I'm looking for a new solution for a centralized media server. I need to be able to view HD content on the LCD in the living room, as well as the DishNetwork signal, but at the same time, I'd like to be able to record any content and watch it on any TV in the house.

Am I dreaming? Is a Windows based solution my only option? I'd end up buying an ATSC HD tuner for the computer, then buy some IR blaster so it can control the Dish Receiver, and I'd have to hook up both Dish connections to TV tuners on my pc as well. This seems way too complicated. I've read that ATT is offering something like what I want in select markets. It incorporates your home network, your DSL, your Dish Network and some sort of media hub and extensions.

Ok, I'm done, sorry.

Ok, so here is what I did.

2 EyeTV tuners with software connected to my Mac Pro. They pull HD OTA from a CM 4228 antenna outside. Then the EyeTV software records and exports (slowly) to iTunes where I can then watch later on our 3 AppleTV units. All the TV's have access to the antenna too, for live viewing. We ditched the dish in 2010 and rarely miss it. Luckily the NCAA tourney was all streamed.
