Lately, (with an un finalized disc in the tray) I get this occasional " status" symbol in the upper right corner of the tv screen. It says, "DVD-R, Channel 3, main audio." This will flash and stay for a few seconds or until I press the status button on the remote and then it goes away. This happens about 3 or 4 times a day.
Any suggestions?

might be rf interference

I have to turn the volume down on my avr because I have come home to find it turned itself on. I have a military airbase nearby so I think it is picking up a signal.

This is normal when you are turning on the unit with a disc already loaded. It will read the disc and give you this message. The only other time I have seen this is when there are reception problems with an antenna, cable or satellite signal. If you lose all (or even a partial amount) or signal, this status indicator will pop up intermittently.
It is not RF interference.

Please advise as to what an "avr" has to do with status messages on a dvd recorder?

The way this system is patched together, in order to watch television, (we have Comcast with their Pace DVR) we have to have the DVD recorder turned on. I am not certain how to patch it in so I can watch televison with the DVD recorder turned off.

It's possible that, due to an faulty installation, you are getting signal variations. If it was installed improperly by the cable or satellite provider, they should come back and remedy the situation. Ask for a supervisor this time.
You should not have to leave the dvd recorder on simply to watch TV.
This is ludocrous!

I went on an agonizing online chat with Comcast. It took forever to get the point across, but the end result is that a Comcast technician is coming tomorrow to look at it. I am not holding my breath that this will be resolved.

This is probably a simple thing to fix, but I had shoulder surgery just last Thursday and I am not up to crawling around the back of the set up with only one arm to use.

Because they both receive rf signals

The Comcast guy came today and it was something simple. All is well. The real problem is the lack of real online support. If someone there actually read what I was saying and had some real answers, no one would have had to come here.

Was it a Comcast issue or DVR issue?

It was mostly a lack of information on my part. Perhaps in future installs, they will see that everything works before they leave and the remote is fully understood by the user. Nothing was broken or missinstalled. I did make a change on one coax cable so that we can now watch what's on the DVR on another tv set in our kitchen. This had nothing to do with the glitch, however.
