I am wondering am I alone in that I purchased the gold package of XBox live for the 360 and can not get extra content like movies & tv shows to download and watch like in the US? I am also wondering why do I have mostly french movie trailers since I chose English as my official language? Online play works and I can download game trailers and extra contents for games but that is it. Has M$ forgotten about Canada? I am wondering should I change to US as country?

You aren't going to be able to change your country to U.S. in a couple of days after the update.

Its all due to licensing. Studios allow MS to sell their movies/shows only in the US. Different companies own different distribution rights to different movies/shows in different countries. MS can't just enable the video marketplace for the world as that would violate so many region licensing agreements. In order to provide movies/shows MS has to negotiate separate licenses with different studios/distributors in each region. Basically, a non-event, if you live in smaller markets.

Your xbox live gold subscription is solely buying you access to play your games online. All the marketplace content is available without a subscription.

And as mentioned, the movies/tv is only available in the US due to licensing concerns. It's not like MS is purposely trying to screw over Canada. Canada is one of the many countries that don't have access to that service. They have said to expect it in the future though.

I'm Canadian and all the content available to me is english? You must have set something up wrong.

edit: Just checked again and I can see why you thought everything was french. It looks like they just released a ton of older movie trailers in french so the new releases section is flooded with french material. I can almost 100% guarantee that all those are available in english too if you work your way through the menus.

You can't just change your local.. You need to make a new profile but make one silver which is free. But honestly you're not missing much unless you just like throwing away money or points..
