View Full Version : Xbox 360 & 50XBR1 VGA Questions - Past and Present

So I've had my 360 since December of 05, and I picked up my SXRD (KDSR50XBR1) last summer.

Having heard issues on the different fora with VGA in general, and I believe some specifically with the XBR1 line, I didn't bother with VGA and have been using component thus far.

My questions are this: Were there any major issues with VGA to a XBR1?
If so what were they, and could they be calibrated to overcome?
Are the issues resolved with the black level adjustment that has been added to the 360?
Does the manufactuer of VGA cable matter in the quality of the cable? (I have heard such things, but it seemed odd)
That's about it, oh and I realize this is pretty model specific, but it's more about the 360 than the TV, which is why I posted it here.

Thanks in advance,
aC

The VGA port on that display is limited to 1280x1024 resolution. So, you should stick with component cables if you want to take advantage of the full resolution of the display (1920x1080).

I can't speak to the black level issues, as I've only hooked up the Xbox via HDMI (I have the Elite). But, given the resolution constraints of the VGA input, the black-level question is moot.

I have the 60xbr1 and the VGA input is teh suxor. Stick with component.

Well, not what I wanted to hear, but I guess I'll be sticking with component.

If I didn't own the add-on I'd probably give VGA a chance, considering I'll assume that VGA supports 1280x720 (which really, 99% of 360 content is)

But considering I enjoy the PQ of HD-DVD's, I really don't want to drop to 720.

component it is... thanks again guys

The VGA input on the SXRD XBR1s stinks. It won't fill the screen and it has nothing to do with the Xbox360. It's the Sony VGA input and crappy resolution support.

The XBR1 VGA input does suck. Trust me, you wouldnt want to use it even if you could get it to work. Further, the quality sucks on it. The component and HDMI inputs on this TV are fantastic though.

It supports 1280x1024 (5:4 aspect) period. It does not support widescreen modes, so you'll have vertical black bars bracketing the 5:4 image on the screen. It's really not worth it.

All true. I've hooked my laptop up to the SXRD and was extremely underwhelmed. It's a shame because the picture via component and HDMI is so stellar.
