View Full Version : *WARNING* TVersity stops working with update
flood222 05-09-07, 11:30 AM I use TVersity via 360 more than I use the 360 to play games!
Just as a warning to anyone, figured a seperate thread might catch someone's attention.
twomileshigh 05-09-07, 11:33 AM I use tversity also..well I guess I used to now...this sucks
danieloneil01 05-09-07, 11:45 AM Wow, this sux..Thanks Bill..
Umm, don't you expect things like this? TVersity will have to update its software now that the 360 itself is updated. This is stupid to go blaming MS. Should MS Q/A every piece of software that isn't approved by them in the first place?
gab2409 05-09-07, 12:42 PM who's blaming ms?
flood222 05-09-07, 01:22 PM I dont think anyone is blaming MS> I read on the TVersity forums that it may be the way the folders are listed now.
I'll just hold off on the update for a while. Im sure that the folks associated with TVersity will get it figured out.
ProjectEF 05-09-07, 01:34 PM Someone please explain how its not working. Mine is exhibiting no issues at all.
chrisherbert 05-09-07, 01:39 PM I've heard that pictures and music still work, but video doesn't.

No, but they call it a media hub when it's hardly that.. It's more like a Music and Photo Hub..

Go to the HTPC forum here or the greenbutton forum and see how people play HD content from there 360's daily.

HD? Most videos aren't HD and I'm going to build a PC for that.. Since I can't have a 360 last longer than 6 months.. And I just got hosed by Gamestop and their warranty.

They just added more codecs in the lastest firmware update too. I would consider the 360 a media hub, I use it for that more than games.....till forza2 comes out anyway.

Its called a media center extender.... i dont ever use the 360 ui to play music,photos,videos,hd/tv,recorded hd/tv etc. Their UI blows compared to real media center.
Charlie97L 05-09-07, 04:08 PM i agree.
i'm also unable to get decent picture quality using TVersity.
if you have the actual media center edition on windows it will play VOBs right?
i'm wanting to set up a DVD server, and i'm thinking that's the way to go. all i'm asking for is good SD that can be upscaled at the 360 and DD5.1... MCE has that right?

What are you playing that doesn't look good because of TVersity?
Looks like you could do 5.1 without MCE under certain restrictions...

8. Do you support 5.1 channel AAC?
No. Only 2-channel AAC is supported. If you want to play a 5.1-channel video on your console, you will need to encode it to WMV with WMAPro 5.1 audio.

Did you change the max res video settings in TVersity? I set mine up to 1920x1080 for video and for pictures. You could be transcoding to a lesser res.
mikepaul 05-10-07, 08:20 AM The TVersity patch fixed the problem.
It's nicer than WMP11 because you can still get all your videos in one list or in each directory on your server while WMP11 only offers each directory.
Now I'll have to retest the 'bug' I saw under WMP11 where 8x fast forward was failing to keep the image on the screen anywhere near the actual position you are at when you hit Play, to see if it's the server or my setup...

So, isn't Media Center Extender just sending audio and video to the 360, like when you use Remote Desktop Connection to take over a remote computer? That's about the only reason I can think of where you have to have the right codecs on your PC to get the videos to show up on the 360...

woop!
i definitely have it set for standard 480i resolution! i figured the 360 was upscaling. i'll try that tonight and see if it fixes things up.
i guess that would pose problem, eh?
so no 5.1 unless we use WMAPro? That's got not as good PQ as the MPEG/VOB format, though, correct?
Only problem with me is that using tversity I think that .mp4 still transcodes. If I use WMP instead and rename .mp4 to .wmv, it streams oh so nicely. Perhaps in the next full version TVersity will fix that though.
