I just hooked up a Motorola DCT6416 and it seems to be emitting a high pitched buzz/whine. It's not very loud, but it's still a noticeable annoyance. This happens when the box is both on and off.

Unfortunately the item is from eBay, so exchanging it for another box isn't really a viable option. I'm hoping that I can find the source of the noise and correct it instead. It doesn't seem to be the fan, so I may have to take the thing apart...

Has anyone else experienced this?

You're right, I could return it if it is in fact defective. I've read that these things are loud, but this seems to be higher pitched than normal fan noise. It's subtle, but it's definitely there.

Upon further investigation, it's definitely the hard drive that's making the whining sound. Can't do much to fix that short of returning the unit.
