View Full Version : Was there a certain chapter of CoM that causes trouble?

I tried to locate the thread, but I may be blind today.

I know a lot of people had problems with Children of Men playback, I actually got mine to work only once I cleaned it off with water and soap.

My roommates plan on watching it tonight, is there a certain chapter I should skip to and play thru to make sure it will all play smoothly?

I've started the movie and skipped around, it seemed to be ok.

Thanks!

well thats interesting, I had to put the disc in 4 times to get it to work. Seems all my problems have not been solved.

Probably just the 360 player *ugg*

I'm going to try to exchange my copy tomorrow. I initially couldn't get it to play at all. After using the soap and water trick, I got through part of the movie (in chapter 10 somewhere) after which it froze again. I couldn't get the movie to load again.

I have the 360 add-on.

According to DIGITAL BITS, Universal and Toshiba have now acknowledged the problem. Universal has an exchange program and Toshiba is said to be planning a new firmware update to help with the fix. According to DIGITAL BITS, one problem was found to be too thick of a glue layer where the two sides are joined together. See last week daily posts at DIGITAL BITS for more information.

I posted in another thread that I was also having trouble with combo disk and my XA2 ! I just read the info at thedigitalbits.com. Thanks for the update and I am looking forward to the fix !

Couldn't imagine that netflix would trade all of their combo disks in but I hope so ! Johnathan

My second copy of CoM would not play the special features, other than that the movie played flawlessly. I also did the same thing, skipped between chapters and played the whole movie a few times.

My new XA2 wont even load the movie. It comes abck with an error message that " this DVD is formatted incorrectly" or words to that effect.

I tried washing it. No dice.

Will a 1.5 firmware up grade fix the issue ??

I checked my copy of COM and it plays fine after chapter 12, this seems to be a layer issue on all these discs

Tonight I was half way thru Hitcher and was really digging it, chapter 12 hits and boom frozen, I soaped, cleaned, boiled and then boiled some more, 12 and on are unreachable by the XA2, I must have tried it 10 times

Combo discs = annoying high prices and nothing but problems, which =

when are people going to say enough is enough :(

Try putting it in the oven for 20 minutes on bake @ 400 degrees. I usually make a quiche while cooking my combo discs. :D :p

My copy from Netflix froze at Chapter 27 every time, finished watching on the SD-DVD side (didn't know about the possible soap/water fix). Re-rented from Blockbuster and was able to watch the whole movie.

I exchanged my disc at Best Buy. When I grabbed a new one, I took at look at the packaging-there were three "versions", if you will: 1) clear wrapping with "Made in Mexico" printed on it, also has a colored smudge near the UPC code; 2) clear wrapping with "Made in Mexico" printed on it, no smudge near the UPC code; and 3) clear wrapping with no printing on it, no smudge near the UPC code. The first copy I bought was like #1, the one I exchanged for was like #3. The new one works with no problems that I've seen yet. The initial copy usually wouldn't even load.

Oh, not the oven for me! I prefer to put my worthless combo discs in the microwave with my morning coffee. :D I get my hot coffee caffiene jolt and the joy of watching $34 each worth of crappy discs dance about and spark lightning like mad!!! :D

Universal, I want my money back or movies that play! I have a useless cleaned/ boiled copy of the following: "The Good Shepherd" (which you sent be by mistake & said I could keep for free=crappy gift), "Smokin' Aces", and the copy of "Children of Men" (which you said would be mailed out ASAP) Still waiting...
