Hello...Newbie here. First of all I searched for about an hour to find the answer without luck.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR502 Receiver and a Scientifice Atlanta 8300 Cable Box with DVR (Time Warner). I can't get the Onkyo Remote to run the Cable Box and there isn't a Remote Code for Scientific Atlanta products in the Onkyo Owner's Manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you figure anything out with your Onkyo remote controlling the Motorola DVR?

I have the same setup (have had the Onkyo remote for a long time, but just got a new Motorola 6416 DVR). I have been able to teach the Onkyo remote most of the commands I need, but the resulting commands are very "slow reacting". The red light at the top/front of the remote, stays lit for about 2 seconds, presumably sending the IR signal that whole time, as opposed to commands for other devices are very quick (flash of the red light). This allows them to send many "repeat" signals if I hold down the button.

Just my $0.02, wondered if you made any other progress with this combination of remote and device?

Nothing yet. I'd be interested to know how you got your remote to control your Scientific Atlanta cable box though. What codes did you use???

Thanks!

Hmm... I have the Motorola DCT 6416 cable box through Time Warner. Strange - I found this post by you after searching for my Onkyo receiver / remote control and the Motorola. Now I wonder why it found your post.

Anyway - sounds like my advice won't help with your Scientific Atlanta box, but to summarize: I didn't find any pre-set codes to work for the Onkyo receiver remote. I threw my hands up and have individually taught the remote each command from the Motorola device.

Let me know if you want more info...

Volleynerd...thanks! How did you teach the Onkyo remote? Is it in the Owner's Manual?

Yes, info on the learning capabilities for the Onkyo remote is in the owners manual. I don't have it in front of me now, but from memory:

Hold the device button (cable, vcr, sat, etc) and press POWER ON. Red light at top of remote should turn on (and stay lit).
Press the button that you want to teach.
Now it's ready to learn, so point the other remote at it and press the button you want to replicate.
This is where I have a bit of trouble. Watch the red light on the Onkyo remote. If you see a couple long flashes, the learning worked. If you see a couple quick flashes, it did not - try again.

(For me, when teaching the commands from my recently acquired Motorola DCT 6416, it successfully learns the commands, but then when using them, they seem to blast the command out of the Onkyo for a couple full seconds - much longer than other commands in other modes learned from other remotes. So the commands for the Motorola device aren't usable as "quick repeating" commands - if that makes any sense)

Hope that helps. If you need more info, let me know.

Thanks! I've looked through the manual and can't find this. Any idea what page it's on?

Hey - just realized I never replied to this.

I'm looking at the manual right now - it's the manual for the Onkyo TX-SR702 / 602 / 8260, so I dunno if you have the same one.

In this manual, "learning commands from another remote controller" is on page 88.

But basically if you follow the instructions I have above, it should work (assuming we're talking about the same remote)

I've got a SKY TV remote (made by Universal Electronics BV),which allows the volume control to be directed to another box. The other box is an ONKYO TX-NR801e receiver. Any idea what code will do this?
