Another Greg?

There's an Outlaw LFM-1 Plus on the way to me now, and I'm just fishing for opinions about getting the best use out of it for two-channel audio, since I mostly listen to music.
My mains are capable of reaching down to 30 Hz before rolling off, but they are rear-ported, 2-way towers of a MTM design. The manufacturer suggests that, if I do use a sub, I should try crossing them over at 40 to 60 Hz, thus cutting the deep bass out of the speakers and passing it on to the subwoofer, and allowing the midrange to be cleaner.
Most of the suggstions I see point to connecting the speakers and sub in parallel, but then I can't use the sub's crossover to follow the above recommendation, correct? What is usually considered better, a high-level or low-level connection?
Any ideas as to what would work best?
