Got an email from my buddy saying that the official HD DVD site, "The Look and Sound of Perfect.com", now has a trailer up for Coming to America. Curious, I head on over to take a look.

Wow, just wow.

For those of you who haven't subjected yourself to it yet, imagine watching a VHS copy of the film on a 65 inch Plasma or something. It's truly disgraceful. Then, and this is the kicker, they've got this ultra sharp and snazzy "Coming soon to HD DVD" at the end of it. As if anyone is going to even attempt the film after seeing that.

It's bad enough that over 90% of the movies on the site don't have trailers(it just simply says "Trailer coming soon") but for them to go out and pull these old, nastly looking trailers is just something else.

Says a lot when my friend's HD DVD trailers page has more(and better quality) trailers than the official site for HD DVD does. Come on Toshiba, clean it up already! It's almost like they want Sony to win sometimes. Yeesh.

I'm looking forward to this one. I'll give it a rent before I buy the HD-DVD.

It's one of my all time favorites, so yeah I'd like to check it out too. It's just embarrassing that they used this trailer that was obviously from 19-whenever.

The DVD for it doesn't look bad so there is hope that the transfer of the movie itself will be quite good.

I have said it many times. The people responsible for that joke of a website should all be fired. They are doing more damage than good. It really would be better for HD DVD if it didn't exsist at all.

It really is just sad. I don't understand how they can let this supposed "official" site for HD DVD suck so hard. I firmly believe that HD DVD is a better format than Blu-Ray, but with Toshiba's constant botched marketing it's getting harder and harder to stand by those thoughts.

I don't care. I still have it on preorder through Amazon. Funny movie.

Who give a hoot?

So long as the movie looks great, I am buying it.

Wait a sec. So unless your opinions are reinforced on glossy paper and advertised on prime time television they are invalid? Think about that.

Apparently you are impressed by Sony's marketing, I am. But I'm aware of it, I look for it, I pay attention to it, for whatever it's worth I even care about it. Still, I have no interest in supporting that format. Only people that care about HD Video are even conscious of the advertising. I asked 20 of my coworkers about the 2 formats, the conclusion made me feel like more of a geek than ever. Not a single person other than me was even aware there were next generation video players out there. Sony has spent how much money on advertising and product placement and these 20 people were clueless. Sounds like money spent on a message that wasn't delivered. Marketing DOES NOT equate to success of said item being marketed. Just look at the marketing disaster behind Coca Cola's "Ok Cola". I wouldn't be surprised if you've never heard of the product despite the millions the company spent on marketing over a 2-3 year period.

For chrissake, some people just love to exaggerate.

Yeah, an HD transfer of an old, shoddy-looking trailer. The sky is falling!

VHS? What!?! You must have had one helluva VCR to make tapes look like that trailer.
