I have a new 27" Sony Trinitron tv and my single definition movies don't look smooth...or at least not nearly as smooth as my 10 year old TV. I am useing a S-video cable. If I bought a Component TV cable, would this fix the problem? I display source is my Htpc with Media Player Classic and Dscaler mpeg decoder.

It would not hurt to try using component cables. Is the player the same one you used on your old tv? DVD players differ in delivering a good picture quality.

yeah, same source...same everything but the tv....new tv. Even though I have a single def. tv, my single definition movies look rough like if I was watching them on a HD tv in thier single definition format.

I am not sure what you mean by rough. You might want to get a calibration dvd and calibrate the tv. You can rent one from Netflix or buy one from Amazon.com. Calibrate your display. It might be that this tv is showing the flaws in the transfer that your old tv could not show. Good luck.

Well, I mean it doesn't look as smooth as my other tv. Also, when you look at single definition movie on a HD tv it looks really rough...non smooth. I watch all my movies off of the Hard drive. Would calibration be a problem still?

That would be standard definition. Are you saying that you have a HD set? Your first statement led me to believe you have a non HD set. If you have a HD set you should invest at least in a progressive scan dvd player and use component cables and make sure you go into the menu of the player and change it to progressive scan. If you have a SD set then try a calibration dvd like Avia or DVE. What do you mean hard drive? You are confusing me right now. I'm getting old but not that old yet. Please be elaborate on what you use to play your movies(brand and model number) and what model number your Sony is. Thanks.

I think he just means he's using his computer hooked to a TV to watch his movies. I do the same thing.
