View Full Version : Sub for an Infinity system...

I'm needing a new sub for my home theater. Up until recently I've been using a Dayton 150. I was very happy with this sub, especially considering the price... too bad the flooded basement took care of that.

Since the water also took out my towers as well, I'm actually in the market for lots of new audio equipment. I'll most likely be pulling the trigger on some Infinity Beta 50's and a matching C360 later today and I'm likely going to grab an Emotiva Amp as well. But what to do for a sub?

I've been looking at the infinity line... The PS-12, PS-212, and the SW-12. I'm kind of leaning towards the SW-12, as it's geared a little more toward the Betas. Any thoughts on the infinity line?

I'm looking at a budget of around $500 give or take within reason (if it's a great sub with a >$200 sticker price, I wont' complain ;) ). Room size is kind of up in the air at the moment. The basement (not going to risk getting flooded again) was 14' x 15' x 9'. My living room is approx the same size with 8 foot openings on either side. I'm considering relocating my theater to the loft above my garage. that space is approx 15'x20'x9', though the ceiling is sloped on either side from about 5' up the walls. I'm about 60/40 Movies-TV/Music. When I do listen to music it's usually pretty hard. Rock and metal mainly, so a sub with some good kick would be nice. :D

Any suggestions...

The SW-12 is a good sub for the $$. It has good extension down to 20Hz, and lots of output from 50-80Hz, which is where your "kick" comes from. If you can get it for around $500, I think that would be a good deal.

But you dont' have to get a sub that is the same brand as your speakers. I would do a search, and read the other $500 sub threads.

I would check out the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus, or HSU VTF2.3.
