I received my compact yesterday, hooked it up and it sounds great but noticed a problem. I have the SW set to auto mode and when I turn off my receiver the sub doesn't enter standby mode, the green LED stays on. I tried disconnecting the LFE cable and the LED was still green. I moved the switch to the on and off positions and they appeared to work correctly so I set the switch to off for the night. When I got up this morning I moved the switch to auto and it stayed in standby but I didn't have time to turn the receiver on to see what would happen. Does this sub take a lot of time to enter standby or should I call Outlaw tech support to see if it is defective? By the way I have the volume set to the 10 o'clock position.
Thanks,
jmak

After I put my receiver in the standby mode the green light on the sub stays on for about 15-20 minutes then turns to red.
Don't know if that is how they are supposed to work but that's how my Compact works.
I would not worry too much about it. Larry leaves his on all the time (if I remember correctly). They draw very little current when on or in standby. Mine took awhile for the green light to go off also.
laugsbach 02-20-09, 10:26 AM ^^
That is right weverb:
I took out the trusty Kill-a-Watt Meter. All three modes of on/off/auto had the same reading of 12 watts without a signal from my AVR.
boarder1995 02-20-09, 10:26 AM It'll stay on for a while. You don't want the unit turning off as soon as it doesn't receive a signal - that's what happens when you turn your receiver off and also what happens during quiet passages of music or movies. It's supposed to be that way.
Thanks guys.
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem.
ResIpsa 02-20-09, 12:03 PM I think right in the manual it gives you the 20 minute figure for the auto setting. I'm at work and can't check but I'm pretty sure that's where I read it, I know I read 20 minutes somewhere, so ditto what the others said
Mixdoctor 02-20-09, 03:53 PM I missed out on the sale. What are the chances Outlaw will have another one soon?

Mixdoctor, FWIW, I would guess late spring / early summer before the next big sale from Outlaw.
kvn12345 02-20-09, 06:22 PM I need help in setting up LFM-1 PLUS:
Can someone please help me on this topic. This is how I set in the back of the sub:
1- Extension Bass: On
2- Bypass Crossover: On
3- 1 Port Plugged: Yes
What I need to know is how what is the Crossover frequency that I should set on my Pre/Pro to match with my 2 front Polk RTI 10 speakers:
This is the specs for the Polk RTI 10:
Overall Frequency Response 20Hz-27kHz
Lower -3dB Limit 35Hz
Upper -3dB Limit 26kHz
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Recommended Amplifier Power 20-300 w/channel
Efficiency 89 dB
Crossover
(mid-high array) 2.7kHz, 12dB/octave low and high pass. 125Hz 12dB/octave high pass
Crossover
(subwoofer) 125Hz, 12dB/octave low pass
Inputs Dual (bi-amp) gold plated 5-way binding posts
I welcome any other suggestions besides my current setting.
thanks,
Kenny
laugsbach 02-20-09, 09:27 PM ^^
Hi Kenny,
Welcome to the Outlaws. I have Polk speakers in my home theater as well.
The RTI 10 series are very nice speakers and you can certainly play with the crossover. I would recommend starting with a crossover on your Pre/Pro to 80dB and go from there.
If you are going to use the Pre/Pro for bass management, set the LFM-1 Plus x-over switch to "BYPASS".
What volume setting on your receiver do you have the sub set ?
I have a Panasonic XR55. The sub output level can be set from 0 to 20. I have it at 15. Might be a touch high, but wanted to make sure there would be no problem with the sub amp sensing the signal.
Sub is set about 10-11 o'clock. REW tells me this is too high. My ears like it; I'm leaving it where it is. (But then, I don't post in the "experienced audiophiles only" thread :p)

All Outlaw owners and adopted sub owners are encouraged to PM me with a recommendation to a great bass movie or scene.
Ok, I am going to get this started::)
"where the light is, john mayer live in los angeles"
Blu-ray; DD TrueHD (96KHz/24-bit)
John Mayer breaks this show into three sets: acoustic/trio/band.
I want to focus on the Band Set. Two songs, one after the other, really stand out:
"i don't trust myself (with loving you)"
"belief"
I have all my subs placed nearfield and the above two songs gave me a complete chair massage.:D:D

Larry,
I agree with you 100% about the John Mayer Blu-ray concert. It's a superb recording and mix IMO. I enjoy all three sets very much. The Blu-ray really puts you right in the middle of it all.
Since you brought up the concert I figured I'd ask you a question. I've actually found that the bass seems to be a bit "hot" on this disc and sometimes bump the subwoofer trim down a notch or two on my receiver, especially during the second set (as a reference, I usually run my Castle flat with my mains, not hot like many people do). Not sure if you've found the same to be true.
Great idea with the bass list, Larry. Keep it up - I'll be sure to stay tuned and contribute :).

Wow, it's supposed to change color? The light on my Plus is always green, regardless of if it's been 20 minutes or 20 hours since it was last used. I guess according to Larry it doesn't make a difference in power draw either way.

Funny, I sampled a few songs from this disc the other night 'cause it had been a while since I listened to the complete concert. I selected my favorite song, "Vultures," and was really pleased by how punchy the drums were and how musical the bass. My wife came in a few minutes later with my two oldest children (ages 4 and 2) and told me they told her they were scared to come into the room. (She wasn't upset; I chuckled.) I told the kids they were just playing music on TV and pointed out what the musicians were playing. Before the song ended my 4-year-old had come into the room with his bag of toy musical instruments, dumped them on the floor, and was proceeding to accompany them in his own little way. :)
I hope to start EQ-ing soon. I snagged a BFD DSP-1124P off of eBay for $65 shipped (it's in awesome condition) and my Behringer UCA202 USB sound card arrived in the mail the other day. Just waiting for some cables from Parts Express and some free time to do it . . .

While you're at it, get a MidiSport Uno from m-audio. This is a USB-to-Midi interface cable which will allow REW to send the filter settings to the BFD in a fraction of the time it would take you to key them in by hand. They are available used, too. You'll be doing a number of tests and tweaks; you'll definitely appreciate the the MidiSport.

I purchased it a year and a half ago for my wife to connect her laptop to her Yamaha Clavinova digital piano in connection with the Finale Songwriter program.
I've been sold on the idea of uploading the filters through a cable for a few days, but I don't want to buy another cable if this one can do the job.

Yes, this title has the bass running quite "hot" and I wonder how it sounded during the live show...was the bass this "hot":confused:

I would guess you have the Auto Power Switch set to "ON" or always "on". If you set it to "AUTO" or auto signal sensing , it will change color from green to red after 20 minutes or so.
You can use the "Master Power Switch" to eliminate any power draw.

Larry
Thanks for the input Larry. Not sure how into concert Blu-ray discs you are but I'm curious if you have the Chris Botti Jazz concert. That's another concert that has the bass recorded quite hot IMO - more so than John Mayer. For some reason, songs during which the bassist uses an upright double bass seem to be the worst offenders on this disc. I often knock down my subwoofer trim 3dB for this disc, as I've found it sounds bloated when calibrated flat.

Mine was always on too. I realized I had the toggle set to ON, instead of AUTO. I thought the switch was only 2 way: OFF or ON. If only I had read the manual or the words on the back panel... :D
Bryan Beckman 02-22-09, 08:27 PM OK, let me get this straight: there's a switch on the back of the sub called AUTO. It has two positions, OFF and ON. I thought that by switching AUTO to ON, I was turning "on" the "auto" mode. I've done this with my previous subwoofer and not had any problem with it going into standby mode 20 minutes after its final thump. Here, with AUTO in ON, the light has not once been anything other than green in the nearly two weeks I've owned it.
Are you guys saying that AUTO needs to be OFF for it to be "on"? If so, that's pretty . . . erm . . . stupid.
laugsbach 02-22-09, 08:32 PM Thanks for the input Larry. Not sure how into concert Blu-ray discs you are but I'm curious if you have the Chris Botti Jazz concert.
I love just about any well made concert BR disc.:)

Well Bryan, I have always looked at it as a three way switch: ON, AUTO, OFF. There are three "click" positions. When the switch is set to ON, AFAIK the sub is always on with a green light displayed 24/7. Move the switch to the middle position or AUTO and the green light will turn to red after 20 minutes or so without a signal.
That leaves us with OFF or a constant red light....I really don't know what that will do when presented with a signal.:confused:

Ah, so it is a THREE-way switch. The way AUTO was written made it look like a switch label, not a switch option. I just went to switch it to AUTO and the red light promptly came on. Thanks guys. Still, neither the manual nor the labeling on the back of the sub is clear on this point.
laugsbach 02-22-09, 08:48 PM Ah, so it is a THREE-way switch. The way AUTO was written made it look like a switch label, not a switch option.

Those of us who own the "Room for Squares" and "Heavier Things" SACDs are used to the "hot" mixes. For some reason, to my ears the concert Blu-ray didn't seem quite as egregious in that regard compared to the other two recordings.
That leaves us with OFF or a constant red light....I really don't know what that will do when presented with a signal.:confused:
Nothing. The sub is basically off and will not reproduce a sound. :)

Hi weverb, the OFF setting is a FUBAR setting IMHO. If you want the sub OFF, use the main power switch and save 12 watts.:D It really should be a two position switch: always ON or AUTO sensing...or change the nomenclature to "STANDBY".:)

Not true Larry. When someone has more than one sub (like I did), it was easy to just flip the toggle to "off" and test. When finished, just flip the toggle back to "auto". I am sure many will say that you can do the same with the main power switch. True. But if you own a HSU MBM, show me where the main power switch is located. :) You either use the "off" position or completely unplug it. Besides, for me when I was trying to reach over a desk, it was easier to get to the toggle than the main power switch. It is nice to have both.
laugsbach 02-22-09, 09:48 PM It is nice to have both.
Fair enough.:)
The Outlaws really need to fix their manual to represent the three switch positions as well as several more mistakes scattered throughout. I agree with Bryan who posted earlier, when I first looked at the switch, I thought it was a switch for Auto Sensing: On or Off...:o

I don't remember off the top of my head. The bassist plays an electric bass for some songs and a double bass for others. To me, the songs with the double bass seem to have somewhat pronounced bass. I'll pop it in really quick and see if I can come up with more details for you.

For all of you who are confused and have Compacts just look at the picture on page 4 in the owners manual. That looks pretty self explanatory to me!

Agreed. The picture in the Compact manual and diagram on the back of that sub are much easier to understand. I would have had no problems getting the gist of that.
ResIpsa 02-23-09, 06:43 PM 3) MV set to -15dB from reference (the wife & kids at the mall setting).:p
-port noise is noticeable from the LFM-1 Plus subs.
-my body is starting to vibrate and the room is very active.
-visceral experience is great.
-pulsing 92-96dB on RS meter.
I was playing around with this scene tonight with my two new dual EX's, and I wanted to see exactly how much bass Audyssey's Dynamic EQ was adding to the sound.
Without Dynamic EQ turned on at -15DB from reference the room was pulsing at 88-92 dB, when I turned it on it went up to 92-96. Just a note for those wondering how much DEQ was boosting the bass.
Oh, and no port noise from the EX's at -15db for that scene, even though the picture window was a shaking:D

Sounds good, I love bass with Audyssey. I'm still waiting for my EX but was playing around with my RS dB meter. With the reference sounds for individual speakers Audyssey set my speakers 80-81 db and the Sony sub 84-86 dB. So it looks like Audyssey likes the bass 4-5 dB's higher than the rest of the speakers. All measurements were taken at the primary seating position.
Have you tried to see how loud you can go without port noise on the EX's?

These are both near field on either side of my couch. At 10 dB's (mid 90's SPL) there is port noise faintly audible, but there if you're listening for it.
At 12 dB's you have to put your ear down by the base of the sub to hear any port noise.

That is their version of a house curve. Not every room needs 4-5dB, but some may need more. :)

Yeah, it's not bad, but it sounds a tad bloated to me. It's funny, for a guy who has a massive 15" ported sub in his <1000 cubic foot room, I sure don't run my bass hot. Most people I watch movies with would actually prefer the bass a good deal hotter than I like it.
BTW, that Chris Botti concert has an incredible soundtrack IMO. Uncompressed PCM @ 13+ Mbps! Doesn't get much better than that. I really enjoy the drum solo at the end. It sounds as though the drummer is sitting right in front of me - simply amazing!
Any other material you'd suggest giving a listen to (Blu-ray concert or otherwise)? This dialog has been fun for me and I'd be up for some other comparisons. Thanks for the reply, Larry.

Also, Larry , what was that Blue Man Group dvd you recommended previously?

I have the Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds concert Blu-ray but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. I got it for Christmas but I've been busy with work and school and haven't had much time. Do you have this disc? If so, what tracks should I listen for?
Also, Larry , what was that Blue Man Group dvd you recommended previously?
I'm not Larry, but I have a couple of Blue Man Group discs. I have the self-titled "Blue Man Group" DVD-A disc which I can wholeheartedly recommend. I've only heard the 1.5 Mbps DTS track and it's still amazing. I also have "Blue Man Group: The Complex Rock Tour Live" concert DVD and it's great as well, though IMO it isn't quite as well done as the DVD-A disc. I've heard great things about "The Complex" DVD-A but haven't been able to listen to it myself.
Keep it coming, guys. This is fun :).

Excellent choice weverb. I will be a HD-DVD fan until both of my players die due to the HD-DVD version of the Eagles Farewell I Tour; Live from Melbourne. Hotel California sounds as good today as it did in 1977.:eek:

Blue Man Group: How to be a Megastar Live! I really like "Above" & "Baba O'Riley"

Hi Stephen,
I'll let you slide on The Eagles, however, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City (BR) is positively stunning in all areas and you have had it since Christmas.:eek: PLAY IT NOW!!!!:D:D
Start with song #8 "The Maker" and proceed directly to song #26 "Two Step"...the entire concert is great, but those two songs have stuck with me.

Yes sir!! :D
Probably tomorrow, actually. It's a little late to be listening at "enjoyable" levels now ;). Thanks for the tip!

I have never listened to any of the Blue Man stuff. You two have me convinced to give it a try. :) Do you think it is something crappy Blockbuster might have?
laugsbach 02-24-09, 10:11 AM ^^
Netflix had it....I would hope BB does too.
steeler 02-25-09, 09:44 AM I see Outlaw's amp sale is over....maybe it's time for another sub sale!!!!! :D
Has anybody tried both? I have a 17x12x8.5' room (about 1700 ft3), are the LFM 12" models going to be overkill for a small-midsize room like that?
Will the compact still blow me away?
thanks,

My room is bigger than yours and my Compact is more than enough. If money is no object and you like throwing money away or you want your ears to bleed buy the EX or plus?
ajstan99 02-28-09, 03:26 PM I do have one disappointment and that is that I didn't buy 2 Compacts. Not that I need more bass but I feel that the room isn't completely filled with one and think 2 subs would even things out. So if/when Outlaw has another sale on the Compact they will have a guaranteed purchase waiting, matter of fact if Scott or anyone from Outlaw reads this, PM me and if you offer the same deal ($319.00 + free shipping) I will buy another one right now! Thanks to all who pointed me in Outlaw’s direction I can honestly say they have another satisfied customer.
Scott send me that PM.

I'd like to propose the following as the 4 stages we all go through at one time or another with new equipment in our setups. Looks like steeler may be jumping between stages 1 & 2 right about now. :D Review and comments welcome.
The 4 Stages of A/V Equipment Ownership
Stage 1 - Enthusiasm: Wow, night and day. This is what I was looking for. Don't know why anyone would ever need to spend more.
Stage 2 - Realism: Still think it sounds really good, but maybe I can tweak things to fix some issues I'm beginning to notice and make it even better.
Stage 3 - Obsession: Tweaking helped, but there are still problems. Starting to focus on the problems every time I turn it on.
Stage 4 - Acceptance: I can't stand it any more. I need to upgrade.
steeler 02-28-09, 03:44 PM I did not wish to insult anyone who bought the plus or EX but I stand by my comments that in a small/mid size room the Compact works just fine. A larger sub is overkill and not worth the money unless you are a person who likes head smashing bass.

My room is bigger than yours and my Compact is more than enough. If money is no object and you like throwing money away or you want your ears to bleed buy the EX or plus? You won't be throwing your $$ with a bigger sub especially for HT. Properly calibrated it's not going to play louder than the Compact. You will have more head room = no port noise and you will have more room shaking.

My room is about 25 by 15 by 9.
By most calculations one EX should be enough, but I bought two. Could I have gotten away with two pluses, or compacts, or maybe one EX? Maybe.
I don't see it as a waste of money, given the reasons above and the fact that I may not always live here.
Plus, if, more likely when:D, I decide to upgrade it will be easier to sell the EX's than it will to sell a compact;)
steeler 02-28-09, 08:07 PM I just watched Bad Boys 2 and my Compact rocked the room!!!!

i'm pretty much in the same boat as you. i ordered one EX towards the end of the sale with plans to buy a second one if i liked it. i loved the look and sound of the EX, but after watching a lot of movies down in the theater room i wonder if two compacts would have sufficed (already getting a huge upgrade in room shaking bass compared to my old setup). i love the EX and there is an empty space up front waiting for the second EX to be delivered (outlaw said 30 more days on friday), i'm just wondering if i spent more money than i needed to.
ResIpsa 03-01-09, 05:53 PM Okay, I downloaded REW, just for giggles to see what my room graphed out like. Unfortunately, no laptop for me, and the office is far from the listening room, but I took measurements with my trusty RS meter and a test tone cd.
Any of you outlaws know if you can manually enter the data into REW and get it to graph it for you?

You would have to manually enter way more frequency readings than what is probably available to play from your cd to get an accurate REW graph.
You can do like I do and just run some long rca cables from your desk top computer to your listening area. I currently run 36' rca cables for my REW measurements.

andiron 03-02-09, 08:56 PM Hey Guys...I've had my lonely LMF -1 EX sitting in the corner since it arrived a few weeks back. I haven't hooked it up since I don't have an AVR. But I corrected this recently by ordering a Marantz sr7002 receiver. The AVR will be arriving later this week. I guess I'm gonna need a cable to hook it up! :D
Can you guys tell me what type of cable is best....what types of clips/connectors to use?
Perhaps I should look at my receiver and other speakers too...since I will also need connecters for my fronts and surrounds?
I think I found a good subwoofer cable at Blue Jeans Cables...
http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/subwoofer/index.htm
Not sure which of the Blue Jeans cables to pick...maybe the first one?
I think the Outlaw subs take an RCA jack plug...yes? Not at home now...so just going on memory. As for my receiver...as I said...not sure about it either. I would like to make the proper connections worthy of the equipment I'm using.
Advice is much appreciated!
Thank you!
MrBoston 03-02-09, 11:03 PM How much better would the plus be than the 8 year old JBL 10 " that I am using? And would it give me any compression in a 15 by 13 room. Just trying to decide between the plus and the EX

It should be a big improvement over your 8 year old JBL.
What do you mean by compression? Did you mean to ask if the subwoofer will pressurize your room? If so, I think the answer is yes. While it won't be able to bring your room down, I think the LFM-1 Plus would certainly be able to pressurize your room a bit assuming the room is sealed off and doesn't open into other rooms.
If you're curious whether the subwoofer will run into dynamic compression, the answer is it depends on how loud you listen. However, my guess is you meant the former, and unless you like to listen really really loud, the Plus should put a big fat smile on your face :D
boarder1995 03-03-09, 09:50 AM andiron,
Sub: Yes, the first cable would be what you need - RCA to RCA. Your receiver will have RCA out for the sub. It's just a matter of how long a cable you want/need.
Mains/Surr: If you've already got speaker wire, that'll work fine until you want to upgrade, but a good quality wire will work. No special connectors needed, unless you just like the cleaner end look of like a banana clips or spades if your speakers have 5-way binding posts.
Components: Depending on the component, you'll need a variety of cables here. HDMI would be a good start to carry both digital audio and digital video, but I haven't looked at the spec. for your receiver yet.
Hope this is a good start.

I already purchased a few cables from Monoprice to have on hand...but didn't see a cable so neatly named "subwoofer cable" on their site. Then I went to the other forum sponsor...Blue Jeans...and saw they had the cables I linked to in my previous post. So... that really helps. Yes...banana clips or spades might be nice. I do have some regular 14 gauge speaker wire that will probably be just fine...it's the usual stuff with a clearish looking insulation. I will take a look at the back of my receiver...should arrive tomorrow...and then maybe order some clips. Probably can't go wrong with spades! :D

Yes guys, as stated in my previous post...I already used Monoprice to stock up...just was a bit confused about subwoofer cable. Since I didn't see any cable explicitly labeled as for use with a subwoofer I thought to give Blue Jeans a try....or another recommendation as per what you guys tell me here in the Outlaw forum. Thank you for the recommendations. :)
I'm curious why he decided on the Marantz sr7002 over say a Onkyo SR876 since they are about the same price.
Archer....well...I am no expert. In a way it was kind of strange how I came to purchase the sr7002. First I thought about the Onkyo's....started thinking the 805 would be cool. Was told that I would not need the video processing provided by the 876 since my PS3 would do all the work for me when it came to processing. Then I started thinking the Onkyo's ran too hot...wanted to use a semi enclosed cabinet. Price was an issue too...I never planned on spending as much as the 876 costs.
So I started looking at the Pioneer 1018 and vsx 03thx. Of course I had people recommend various receivers. Many said the Marantz were nice and very musical. I looked at the sr7001 and sr6003. I ended up buying the sr7002 via auction and got a price much lower than that of the 876. Right at $700. More than I wanted to pay...but I decided I was tired of waiting and the deal was not bad.
In simple terms...I didn't buy new...and I didn't want to do my cooking in the living room! :D
And once again....didn't need the video processing capabilities of the 876. In fact...it is my understanding that it is less and less necessary because the latest BD players are moving in the direction of decoding all the codecs.
I did the best with my selection given the recommendations I received and what I thought was important. Maybe not the best choice...but...I'm sure glad I'm getting a receiver. I was tired of trying to decide! :D

Yup, need to use patience.
Stopped by the Circuit City "liquidation" sale again last night. They have a Klipsch Synergy Sub-12 marked down from $800 to $400, but that's really not any lower than current internet pricing, and I doubt it's anywhere as nice of a sub as the Outlaws or Hsus (VTF2-Mk3) I am considering.

That "markdown" is BS. CC is posting a ridiculous original price and claiming a 50% discount. Here is Klipsch's website and the recommended price for the Synergy Sub-12:

Yeah, considering the sub has an MSRP of $500 listed on the manufacturer's web site, I don't think that $400 is a very good deal, especially for a "liquidation" sale...

Yup. I imagine they sucker some people in on the spot, but I figured the above out after a few minutes of google.
hanesian 03-04-09, 07:17 PM I fought the crowds the first day CC opened their doors for their liquidation sale. I was not impressed with the prices at all, but they were selling like crazy. All I can think of is there were a lot of uninformed buyers who assumed they were getting huge deals. Every piece of equipment I priced that I was shopping for was more expensive than prices I already had found elsewhere.
Maybe this will change as time goes on, but that was what I found.

Only $70 cheaper than the standard price at BB, where it also goes on sale for less than $400 from time to time. Not to mention the fact that you absolutely cannot return it for any reason if you buy it at CC. $100 is $100, but to me the risk is too great to take for such a minimal discount.
ResIpsa 03-05-09, 05:45 AM You guys better keep your asses away from CC.
The media is filled with stories of people getting their stuff home, opening the boxes and finding busted up equipment, equipment DOA, etc.
Because all sales are final they aren't accepting any returns, and you'll be SOL.
Buyer beware:)

From where??????
Well, I found one that was for sale but didn't sell on a certain auction site. Actually got no bids at all, but the seller had 0 feedback and instead of starting the auction low and with a reserve, they had a high starting bid.
I contacted the seller after the auction and asked about the sub, and if they were going to re-list it. They said no they weren't, and we've been talking for a few days about it and worked something out.
I'm taking a bit of a chance, but I got to talk to the other party (both of them) on the phone and everything seems to line up.
I will have them ship it to me using my company's UPS account, so no gouging there, and it will be insured for a decent amount.
Fingers crossed.
Quaxtros 03-06-09, 12:42 PM My friend had an extra Outlaw LFM-1 just sitting around his house that he wasn't using. He asked me if I wanted it on permanent loan. So of course I said OK.
It is replacing a Rocket UFW-10 subwoofer.
The sound quality is so different than what I'm used to. I've been playing music through it for several days now. While its not as fast as my small sealed UFW-10 it did produce instrumental lines that I never heard before on music well known to me.
We also watched a couple of movies with it but nothing really bass heavy.
Last night I put on Toy Story 2 with the DTS 5.1 track. Well let me tell you something...I never heard bass remotely like this in my home theater! It was amazing!
The opening sequence where Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) sets down and a giant trap door covered with rocks starts to open up the LFM-1 blew off pictures and paintings off my wall!!! It was a huge mess with glass everywhere!
I had a grin on my face from ear to ear but the wife was not too happy when she came home!!!

I was originally looking at a Hsu VTF2 Mk3, STF-2, or the ED a2-300 - but I really like the Outlaw design (kid and placement friendly downward driver and ports).
Just had to do a little extra legwork (and finger crossing) to pick up on this item from the "island of ebay misfit toys"!
Has anyone done the Outlaw transferable warranty? I didn't see any mention of it on their website.

I saw this today as well and it is certainly depressing news. I ordered an LFM-1 EX on 2/8 and was hoping I'd receive it in time for spring break, but that looks like wishful thinking now. :(
I haven't considered getting something else for a second. At $519, there is nothing with better price-performance. Anyway, I'm still excited about getting my sub--it is the last piece of my new setup...

DonaldFagen 03-09-09, 12:16 AM At $519, there is nothing with better price-performance. Anyway, I'm still excited about getting my sub
Don't shoot me, but I was one of the very last ones to get my order in on time for an LFM-1 EX at the sale price before they went on backorder. It replaced a perfectly good 10" Paradigm PS-1000. All I can tell you (and anyone else in the same holding pattern) is to try to remain patient! It will definitely be worth the extended wait!!!:)

Good to hear :) I can't wait to get mine and play around with REW. I've been doing a lot of reading over at HT Shack. Of course then I'll probably end up NEEDING a BFD, and the addiction will continue...

boarder1995 03-09-09, 09:34 AM Yep, I too replaced a Paradigm PS1200 with dual EX's...WoW! Now I've felt what's possible and wonder what more could be had - with quads? With something else? With a DIY? Hmmm... I've been happy for 15+ years with my Paradigm and now I get a taste of real deep and impacting bass and I can't stop.

OUCH!!!
My power cord stops 3 feet short of my power conditioner. Is it safe to plug into a surge protected power strip, and then plug that strip into the power conditioner? Like a mini extension cord.

If your power conditioner has power surge protection capability there is no need for the surge protected power strip. Just plug your sub into a UL approved 16/3 extension cord and then plug that into your power conditioner. Most manufactures say 16/3 is OK but check with the manufacture of your power conditioner so you won't void the warranty. I use a 16/3 cord with my APC.
biggestbertha 03-10-09, 12:42 AM I PM'd Larry last month on some questions regarding the differences between the EX and the Plus. I had been researching the HSU VTF series, the ED AD-350, and the SVS products when I discovered Outlaw subs. I was really stuck between the 16hz extension on the EX vs the 18hz extension on the Plus to go along with better WAF, and Larry ultimately recommended the EX.
The LFM-1 EX arrived about 4 weeks ago. It was the right move. This thing rocks! I use it 90/10 for movies/music. I've only used it in bass extension mode. The oliphants-sp? charge scene in LOTR III is as visceral an experience as I've had in a movie theater, much less in my living room. If I had ordered the Plus, I'm sure I would have been just as happy, except for those deep bass moments in a movie when I'd be wondering if I should have sprung for the extra 2hz extension. These are the moments I now anticipate in every movie I watch.
I have the sub gain/volume set at 2.5. Anything over 3 and the bass overpowers any other sound attempting to emanate from my Mirage speakers/room/house or city block.
Visually, the EX is impressive. It routinely draws a "holy sh$t!- what is that?":D from guests. I have to admit, I've never seen a home sub this size before. Most people have no idea what it is.
This is my first foray into home theater, and it's been a fun ride. I'd like to thank Larry and many others on this forum that make it easier for people new to this hobby to research products and get answers.
To anyone who is wavering on which sub to get, I'll just say that I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Mr. Outlaw (Larry) will never guide you in the wrong direction! Glad you are happy with your decision and that it has worked out for you. :) It is now time to take the EX to another level and learn REW. ;) You may find that the EX has even more to offer. :D

I understand I don't "need" the extra surge protection. But I have an extra 3' strip lying around that I'd like to use, rather than have to buy a new 10' extension cord.
Any harm here?

Well, I'm hoping the Plus will be more than sufficient for my little room. And really for the $425-ish delivered it's going to cost me, it will be pretty hard to have 2nd thoughts.
Looks like I will have it Wednesday or Thursday.

TimGoodwin 03-10-09, 09:30 AM I've just placed an order for the LFM-1 Plus and I was wondering if any one knew how long of a wait is it for the back order?
boarder1995 03-10-09, 10:09 AM I've heard possibly a month, but just depends on when the shipment arrives on the boat into California. Once in California, it'll only take a few days, depending on your loaction in the US. I got my units very quickly when they had them in stock - very impressed with their turn around time.
My bargain LFM-1 Plus is on the delivery truck as I speak. Should be able to plug it in tonight, but probably not much Audyssey tweaking due to my wife catching up on her TiVo'd shows in that room.
This will be my first down-firing sub, so I'm not sure if it will play nice on the stone fireplace hearth where our previous front firing subs lived (the hearth is in the back of the room, the subs sit in the corner behind the main viewing couch).
rmplum: Where are you getting the delivery date / status. I placed an order a little over a month ago and the only email I got from them leads to an invoice page showing the order itself (with no updates or estimated dates etc)
Thanks
rmplum: Where are you getting the delivery date / status. I placed an order a little over a month ago and .....
syyid,
I bought mine through a private transaction after it didn't sell on ebay.
I received it today. It's in awesome shape. Best $375 spent ever. Have it connected, but won't get to re-Audyssey it until tomorrow night.
Holy crap the LFM-1 Plus is big. Should be plenty of sub for my little room.
Well, two days in and I'm pretty happy so far with the LFM-1 Plus. Finally got a chance to redo Audyssey (MultEQ on my Denon AVR-888) last night with a tripod and all 6 room positions.
With my LFM's volume set at about 3.5 (10:00 position roughly) the Audyssey set SW level at -8dB, which is pretty much throttled all the way back. After finishing the setup and listening to a few songs (Bela Fleck and some Steely Dan) I notched it up to -5dB. The walking bass line on the "Swing on This" track from Alice in Chains (Jar of Flies) is also a good one. Anyway, the thing is still WAY down in it's available adjustment range.
I haven't tried much LFE yet, just the chapter 25 Darla scene in Nemo and it's pretty impressive.
I'm glad I got the Plus (especially for the price), but it's also pretty hidden in my family room (behind the couch in the corner) so I'm lucky there. It would be a pretty huge box sitting out somewhere in plain sight in my small room, even though the finish is pretty nice. It currently sits on a fieldstone fireplace hearth (with the spikes and cones) so I will probably grab a Subdude or similar to firm up the mounting.
Seems like a great sub so far though.

nelson57 03-13-09, 09:36 AM Just wanted to publically acknowledge my experience of Outlaws Customer Service. Ordered a B-Stock LFM-EX1. Product arrived, sounded terrible, had an unbearable rattle. Called Outlaw and spoke to Scott.
Scott did some checking and it turned out that they had another LFM-EX1 that was shipped in error and was on its way back to them.
They shipped me the one the was returned with a pre-paid label to send my defective one back. Did the exchange with Fed-Ex.
After setting up the replacement I got no output from the sub, although the green light came on indicating it was getting a signal.
Called Outlaw again. Spoke to Scott who walked me through removing the amp to check for a lose connection that sometimes occurs in shipping, and that was exactly the case. Reconnected the cable, reconnected the amp, and all is well.
It was quite refreshing to experience customer service where you felt like the company you were dealing with really cared, and wanted to help solve customer problems. Thank you Scott and Jennifer.
MrBoston 03-13-09, 11:24 AM Got a b stock plus ordered this morning. Will it be better than 2 Pa 120's I was about to order?
BACONlover 03-13-09, 02:34 PM Glad to hear they took care of you nelson. The great CS at SVS is a big reason I'm still considering getting a PB12, as I await for the Outlaw shipment to arrive. Right now I'm leaning towards sticking with the LFM1 as the almost $200 difference might be better spent elsewhere. Is it end of March yet?? :D

Mine also. I got mine three weeks ago. I know the consensus that the EX is the better option but, frankly at the sale price in January I really dont have any upgrateitis. Love the Plus.
My wife and I were out for dinner last night and considering going to a movie, then she said:
"you know, I almost like watching them better at home now. I have no idea what all of your stereo equipment does, but it sounds very good"
I was pretty floored. She also asked what the big black box was behind the couch - I said, "oh it's just another speaker - that's the one that makes the booms".
So, that was pretty cool. On another note, I played with the real traps test tone CD today. Even though my LFM-1 Plus is in max extension mode, output dropped off significantly below 25-26 Hz. I didn't have my sound meter at home to check numbers, but I was a little bummed at what I heard - since this thing is rated for 18Hz in MaxExt mode.

boarder1995 03-15-09, 04:22 PM I've got the EX and did the same thing with a test CD frequency sweep. I thought the sweep down sounded like it dropped off as I got closer down to 20Hz. After measurements with a calibrated REW laptop setup I discovered it'll sound as though it drops off, but measured response is actually flat until 16Hz. I've actually got a bit of a bump from ~22Hz to ~16Hz, then it drops off to below 14Hz. The human ear certainly doesn't hear "flat". Of course take measurements and compare results. It may also be placement.
Funny about going out to movies comment...we don't do it anymore either. My wife said the same thing last night after the third LOTR movie (watched all three this weekend!) - that she prefers to watch at home. It sounds good, looks good and we can pause it for intermissions whenever necessary!
Well I had a few minutes last night to start playing with room response..I need to run more frequencies, but here is what I have so far using the real traps CD...

Thanks I got to testing the 03 yesterday at 0dB playing cable jazz via optical, when I started to smell the amp circuitry I started to smile. But the true test was to see if anything would shut down and it passed with flying colors. Speakers are Monitor 60's towers with Monitor 60 bookshelf's in 7.1 it's kind of funny that my STB fell off the Aiwa TSW-45U sub while I was doing this. All I need is the plus to complete my system. This is killing me eleven more days....
tleavit 03-20-09, 06:22 PM Question:
If I were to buy a 2nd LFM-EX do I need to buy one of them managers like the Velodyne's SMS-1?
M3 Pete 03-20-09, 08:37 PM My friend had an extra Outlaw LFM-1 just sitting around his house that he wasn't using.
Thank you Outlaw Audio :):p:DThat's awesome. I've had the original LFM-1 for about 5 years now, and it's still sounding great. Even in a 3000 foot room it rocks. Might not go as low as the Plus or EX, but it's certainly loud enough. Playing Darla on Nemo just makes me laugh.
boarder1995 03-21-09, 12:17 AM I've got my dual EX's and have been comparing them to a single SVSUltra13 I just picked up a week ago (good b-stock deal). It's a close call for reasonable levels in my room for sound quality and musical playback. For shear output the nod goes to the Ultra, but that's only needed when playing at HIGH levels - not that often for most. Now, for overall room consistency the duals really help my room. It's got me thinking if I want to really consider a single anything. However, in my prime seating locations even the single EX really does great. The ease and depth the unit plays to is wonderful. REW has shown very similar depths for both the EX (max extension mode) and Ultra (15Hz mode) units. At depth the EX does quite well, but this is where it starts to show more struggles compared to the much price-ier Ultra. Not knocking the EX, just posting my impressions. If I hadn't gotten the Ultra, I'd have likely been more than satisfied for many years with the EX's setup. I have decided to sell the EX's (PM me if interested), but that's only by a narrow margin and the desire for the max output benefit of the Ultra. The EX's are a fair bit smaller and easier to place in more places though due to their size and down firing driver and ports.

kvn12345 03-21-09, 07:42 PM I have been experiencing rattling noise come from inside of my LFM-Plus. Is it because of the placement? There are walls in the back and left side (3-5 inches), and the right side is the front speaker. So, when I pull it out (without walls surrounded), the rattling seems to be less. However, when I left it at about 45 degree angle, the sound seems to go away. Does anyone experience like this, any suggestion? Or do you think it might be defected. thanks,

DoubleATheater 03-22-09, 08:35 PM Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has compared the Lfm1-ex subwoofer to the SVS PB12-nsd and the hsu vtf3-mk3. I am having a very hard time deciding. I want a hard hitting sub that can go low and wow me. Sadly my budget is small at around $700. Outlaw has free shipping right now on the backordered subs. Any help would be appreciated.
BACONlover 03-24-09, 02:39 PM Kenny, were you able to resolve your issues with the sub? Sorry can't offer a suggestion/solution other than to give Outlaw a call to help you diagnose what is wrong. Let us know how it turns out.

I have no personal experience with the aforementioned subs but have read numerous threads regarding the PB12 and the VTF3.3. According to Ilkka talking about the PB12 and 3.3(quoted from Home Theater Shack), "I'd say they are really close when it comes to pure performance or sound quality. Since the size and finish are pretty much identical, I'd get the one that I can get for less $."
As for the LFM1 EX, it's performance is said to be comparable to the Hsu 3.3. At the "sale price" of $519 shipped, it seemed like a no-brainer. At $649 shipped, it's a little harder since you can get the PB12 for the same price. If WAF is a factor, I'd say the Outlaw looks way better than the SVS or Hsu. I think the consensus would be that whichever of the three you decide to get, you're likely to be pleased with it's performance.

I hope all you guys "on hold" get your subs soon and report in with your reviews! I've been really pleased with my LFM-1 EX and am curious to hear what others have to say.
I wonder, too, if "DoubleATheater" (several posts above) ever came to a decision. The three subs under consideration all get consistently good user reviews, but since they're not available in stores to audition, I doubt too many people have been able to compare even any two of them side by side. Tough call to make.
For $519 shipped, I have no regrets or second thoughts about the decision I made. :)
BACONlover 03-30-09, 01:34 PM Yeah the shipped price for the Outlaw subs during the sale made them great values. It was like getting a free model upgrade.
I saw on another thread that DoubleA went with a PB12. Delivered to my location, that would have cost a few dollars less than the current price of the LFM1 EX. I doubt he'll regret that decision.
DonaldFagen 03-30-09, 01:48 PM I wonder how he came to that decision. It's hard enough trying to make good judgments even when you actually have the rare opportunity to audition subs of interest in a retail environment. Basing your decision solely on online tests and reviews as most of us did is really a crapshoot. Fortunately my faith in the system paid off.

Does anyone have done this similar test?

Kenny, remove all the cables from the back of the unit, and then remove the screws along the perimeter of the amplifier. Pull the amp out a bit, and take a look inside the enclosure to see if you have something loose lying around inside.

Unfortunately, I paid $699 shipped, but it is still worth it. At $649, it is worth it. At $599 or less, it is a steal. That $519 shipped price was almost too good to be true on the EX, but glad lots of people were able to take advantage of it. Bottom line, if you are antsy and want to jump in, then I say just do it now. You'll get way more joy out of having the sub in your hands soon, as opposed to waiting indefinitely to save $100 or so.
boarder1995 03-31-09, 03:24 PM I've got two of the Outlaw LFM-1 EX's from the promotional sale that I'm now selling. Brand new, sitting unused since mid February, purchased beginning of February, with all packing materials. I'll let them go for $500 each, plus shipping. The warranties fully transfer too.
Ok, beyond that, I'd consider waiting for a good sale if you're not in a hurry. They're great subs and play plenty deep just like the other brands. However, even at $649, they're a good deal - much better than you'll find at a local retailer.
Unfortunately, I paid $699 shipped, but it is still worth it. At $649, it is worth it. At $599 or less, it is a steal. Thank you Jeffrey, for your comment. When and why did you paid $699 for it?

can't wait to go hook it up next to its twin brother tonight. now i'll really be able to test which "mode" i like better - i forget the two names but one of them is suggested fro use with the muffle insert and the other is not.

Is that from the Feb sale?
yep from the feb. sale. price was so good i had to get two.
kvn12345 03-31-09, 09:18 PM Kenny, I strongly suggest you try what that last poster suggested. I have a feeling he knows a thing or two about subwoofers! ;)
Thanks guys for the suggestion. I'll try over the weekend and let you all know the result.
From the Outlaw site:
"The most recent shipment of LFM-1 EX subwoofers that is expected to arrive later this week (4/1/09) will not fulfill all of our backorders. A second production run will arrive in approximately two weeks."

Some of us will be happy, some of us will be sad. Now we wait to see what group we're in. :p
It looks like the plus is not on back order anymore, I'd sure like to see the email shipping confirmation sometime today or tomorrow.

smokey982 04-02-09, 01:45 PM Well I finally got my LFM-PLUS yesterday and was wondering if anyone had any setup recommendations. I'm a real newb at this stuff. I have a Denon 1909 that I ran audyssey a few months ago using my old 8" sub. So I know I need to re-run audyssey with my new Outlaw sub. I'm just trying to decide on a permanent location before I do so. I asume I need to bypass the crossover in the sub and let my Denon to that part? And on the volume, is this set by preference? Where should I set the volume when running audyssey? Any other recommendations are appreaciated.
smokey982 04-02-09, 06:58 PM Anyone??
MrBoston 04-02-09, 07:14 PM Trying to decide if I want to send my LFM plus back, Is the EX that much better? Anyone ever had them both? I have till next friday to send it back.
Just got through setting up my plus, both ports open set it to 120Hz left the auto switch set to on, let my 03 set the crossover. MCACC complained the sw was to loud I had to crank it down to 9:00 then MCACC would finish. Put in Horton Hears a Who and all I can say is :eek:Holy Shnikies! Even with the thing toned down the lows are amazing can't complain for 439.00 buckaroos...
I can't crank her up tonight have to wait till tomorrow but so far compared to where I'm coming from it's a huge leap no doubt about that! As Penny would say (Bolt) "Thats a Keeper!" Will test Pulse, Bolt and all the good stuff tomorrow peace out!

Anyone getting EX shipment confirmations yet?
silversport 04-03-09, 07:30 AM My LFM-1 Plus arrived...need to dial it in but I am as impressed as I was years ago with my LFM-1...very nice...the sounds seems fuller than it did with my Klipsch Sub-12 (which I had no real complaints with...just missed my LFM-1)...
Bill
Ok I got to play pulse at 0dB I set the gain at 10:00 switched over the O3 to Select 2 THX sat back in my Lazy Boy and proceeded to play the movie. Feeling the subsonic on the back of my chair going right through it felt like I had a driver mounted in the back of the chair the LFM is facing me. I never felt anything like this before, I mean compared to my system I installed in my 64 GTO few years back running dual 12" Earthquakes ported box. Laying on the trunk lid felt pretty awesome back then, but there is no comparison to my house system.
I'm running two Polk Monitor 60's towers along with the Monitor 30 bookshelf's in 7.1. Speaker placement is configured to the THX spec, angles and distance from the walls are all measured for complete accuracy. Heck MCACC even sees it this way when you see the LCR frequency's and distance measurements come out even it's well worth the extra effort. Aligning the speakers to me is important because I sit exactly in the rear/middle of my room.
Another thing is I'm glad I didn't get the EX because that would have been way to big. The Plus sits comfy next to my TV stand, one thing I can tell you is I had no idea I would feel the subsonic's coming from the back of my chair going right through you that was a pretty amazing experience for me. And I'm not in Ext mode either both ports are open and I think I'll leave it this way till I break in the driver.
Anyway I just want to say I'm more than happy with this purchase and no regrets like I said the EX would have been way to big the Plus barely fits where it is.
Regards, Gary
I have been experiencing rattling noise come from inside of my LFM-Plus. Or do you think it might be defected. thanks,
KennyI have 2 EX's and last night I thought I heard a rattling noise coming from one of my EX's...Sure enough today I checked it out and I do have a rattle in one of my subs. I have my subs volume set to 3 and they are both 1.5 feet away from any walls. I guess a call to Outlaw is in order.

I opened the back of the sub and look inside. There is nothing loose. However, when I hold one of the port pipe and give it a little move, I can hear a little cracking sound. At first, I cannot hear anything because my kids were around. I then let my kids into there room so I can have a very quiet environment, the cracking sound is noticeable. I also notice the rattles come from the same location. I think I'll give Outlaw a call too.

Outlaw customer service is definitely top notch. If they can help you, I'm sure they will.
I'm sure Outlaw will take care of it for you, it sucks to have to break out your tools and start taking things apart on something new. Anyway yesterday I decided to crank the gain all the way while I was playing FM radio at around -20dB. I guess it was just to much the amp cut out on the plus at full volume a slight counter turn brings it back to life. I'm settled in at just below 10:00 and listing to radio jazz it handles music excellent not boomy at all.....

The amp cutting out may have saved you some money on replacement windows. ;)
so after receiving my second EX last week i've been doing a lot of bluray and music listening. adding the second EX *drastically* changes the whole game as far as my setup is concerned. I have a 7.1 setup using an Onkyo 805 (and a third subwoofer in the back of my theater room - an older atlantic technology thx ultra 2 sub). the bass is now effectively chest-thumping and intense WITHOUT ever seeming like it's too pumped up in the mix or too "boomy". the addition of these two subs has completely changed the HT experience in my home theater setup. all i can say is WOW. at first i thought i had made a mistake ordering a second EX at the end of the sale after hearing how much bass was produced in the room by just having one, but adding the second one seems to have smoothed out the uniformity and made the real low-end intense bass portions of some movies really become an entirely different experience.

Yikes! Is there a particular frequency (or source) that revealed the rattle, or does it occur whenever the sub is used period? Reading the last few posts has suddenly made me a bit paranoid.
Just a update on the rattle situation...it was the driver...Scott from Outlaw is sending a new replacement, should have it in 3 days. +1 for customer service. :)

WormInfested 04-07-09, 05:00 PM I'm slowly shopping for a new subwoofer to replace my decade plus old JBL TLX 100 watt subwoofer i bought at Future Shop when it was around where i live at. I look at the HSU subs but were a bit too much then i found the Outlaw Audio subs LFM1 plus is what i found would work perfectly for me at 545 though the site says not in stock from what i last checked. I hate my sub right now since it hardly works well anymore. i'm getting a SC-05 friday and next is the sub to be replaced. Is the LFM 1 plus a rockin' sub?

jeffrey r 04-07-09, 09:05 PM Thank you Jeffrey, for your comment. When and why did you paid $699 for it?
Sorry for the delay--just checking back in. Price was $599, plus about $90 shipping if I recall. That was simply the going rate at the time. Still worth it, but sure I would have loved to have paid less.

Which I don't think is anytime time soon.

Thanks, I order mine in March 18. So Outlaw is barely shipping to those who got in the pmotion deal. That mean I won't be receiving mine untill end of April early May. Is killing me having to wait.

I recently had the exact the same problem, and also experienced the same result dealing with Scott. One driver starting rattling, and I received a replacement within a couple of days. All is well now.
Those of you that waiting for your EX-1's, when these things are working as they should they are awesome. And should you have a problem, its good to know that solid support is there.
My EX was picked up by FedEx on 4/10 and was on the truck for delivery on 4/11, but FedEx decided not to deliver until the next business day. So I should have it tomorrow.

Yes, the packaging is impressive. Once your sub is in place and you know it's working correctly you can peel off the protective film covering the plexiglass on top. It was so securely fitted that I wasn't sure it was meant to be removed and had to check with Scott first.
I think you're going to love your new Outlaw sub. I thought my old Paradigm PS-1000 was decent until I got the LFM-1 EX. It BLOWS the Paradigm away!
I am definitely not touching that line!
Hah! Maybe I should have expanded a bit more. I heard no complaints when she saw the delivery box, and she was content sitting on the couch watching as I went through the process of flipping the thing over a few times to get it out of the box and move it around.
Deep down I know she's (almost) as excited as I am that it is finally here. :)
My online tracking showed delivery of my EX to be THursday. I got home from work today to find a Fedex tag on my door.:(:(
I won't be at work tomorrow because I'll be waiting for the second delivery attempt.:)
Bryan Beckman 04-14-09, 10:34 PM Yeah, Outlaw requires a signature for delivery. It's hard to fault them for that, as these are rather large and expensive boxes to just be leaving on your doorstep. Even still, it stinks when you have to plan your day around an uncertain delivery schedule.
WormInfested 04-14-09, 11:04 PM I didn't realize picking a subwoofer would be so much fun yet also arduous. Thought the ED A3-300 would fit next to my couch but i forgot about the handle for recliner part. the couch is next to the left surround on a stand against the wall with about 18 or 19 inches to spare. That leads me back to the lfm1 plus which is 15 inches. gotta please the wife:)
Now that i know Outlaw requires signature upon delivery which will make it interesting to get the package. Can you sign the paper that fed ex leaves on your door and have them deliver it that way or do you actually have to be in person to sign for the sub? Or can you pick it up at the Fed Ex place if there is one near you? I get home from work around 3:30 in the afternoon. i'm sure they'd deliver it before that.
bill1908 04-14-09, 11:18 PM If your FedEx driver is a good person, you can put a note on your door telling him/her what time you'll be home and they will probably come back. It is so heavy they don't want to keep taking it on and off the truck every day. It works for me.... good luck:)
Bryan Beckman 04-14-09, 11:27 PM Also, if you know of a neighbor who's home around the usual delivery time, you could ask them if they'd be willing to accept delivery of a (large) package, then leave a signed note on your door asking the FedEx guy to deliver to that address. I've done that before. I've also gone to a UPS facility on a number of occasions after normal delivery hours to pick up a signature-required package.
I recommend calling 1-800-GO-FEDEX and explaining your situation to them. I'm sure they'd be happy to suggest solutions that will work with your schedule. After all, it's in their best interest to get packages out of their warehouses and into your hands. :)

Scott is sending me a new driver. Hopefully that will solve my issue too. When I opened the sub, I found the rattles come from the port tube because when I tapped my finger on it and I can hear the rattle. I told Scott, but he doesn't think so. He said the high probability is from the driver. Fedex will deliver my new driver next Wed.

Received my LFM-1 EX yesterday. Hooked it up, OMG. This is my first sub I ever bought and I think will be my last. Unless I have a bigger house.
Watch Transporter 3 last night. I can't believe the bass this sub put out.
Shake the whole house. I could hear the bass from another room. For some reason the bass I hear is more powerful from the other room. I have not set any setting on the sub or the receiver. But I am already happy with what I heard. Can't wait to go home and listen to some more. $649 well spend, this sub will last me for a long long time.
DonaldFagen 04-21-09, 09:11 PM For some reason the bass I hear is more powerful from the other room.
Glad you're enjoying your new LFM-1 EX. With regard to your comment above, try flipping the phase switch and see if the bass gets louder or softer at your normal listening position. If it gets louder, leave it that way. It might just sound louder in the other room because low frequencies travel farther and carry better than high frequencies, which are very directional.

Sorry to hear that. I got a compact & I wasn't happy with my first one either so I sent it back. If Scott hadn't been easy to deal with I might have gone with another company, but their CS was so responsive and so helpful that I thought I'd give them another try. I'm glad I did. The more I listen to my Outlaw sub, the more I like it. Hopefully, your situation gets straightened out too.

I purchased the LFM-1 Plus a few years ago and have been very pleased with it. Now I'm considering a second sub to my HT system and was wondering if I should go with another LFM-1 Plus or the LFM-1 EX? The EX is very close to the specs of the Plus but seems to have a little more output and deeper extension. Should I spring a little extra for the EX or just stick with another Plus? Thanks in advance.

Bummer
I have the main power switch on and power auto on. But it doesn't seem to power itself off when its not in use. The light stay green when unit is not in use. Does anyone have this problem? What am I doing wrong?
Bryan Beckman 04-28-09, 12:59 PM The auto-on switch has three positions. You want the middle one. The top position keeps it on all the time.
I missed it too, until the helpful folks here enlightened me on the subject.

Seen any good bass movies?
Larry
Hey Larry,
Wow, I bet you're enjoying the Panny :). I hear the AE3000 has an easy setup option to work with a 2.35:1 screen without requiring an expensive anamorphic lens - very cool. I bet you're enjoying it. I'm using a Mitsubishi HC3000 720p DLP, and I enjoy it a lot, though it won't compare to your AE3000.
I haven't had much time to enjoy the toys lately, either. No yard projects, but I'm going to be painting my room before long. Right now I have white ceilings, a white closet, and light blue walls - this all kills contrast with the PJ. I'm planning to paint the ceiling and front wall black and the rest of the room a dark blue. This should create better immersion for HT and much better contrast (or so I'm hoping!). Unfortunately this is on hold because school's keeping me busy. Lots of group work to do, so I haven't had time for much play lately. I'm hoping to get a couple of days here and there so I can get the room done :).
I haven't seen many movies lately either. Quantum of Solace was decent for bass, and I finally got The Dark Knight on Blu (that's a bass powerhouse for sure!). Other than that, haven't seen many new movies in a little while.
Anyway, great to hear from you again. Been playing any golf? Talk to you soon.

Stephen, your painting project will, indeed, yield great results.:)
No golf for me:mad::mad::mad: too many projects and toys.:D
BTW, I have another bass movie recommendation: "Let the Right One In". It is a very unusual movie that will stay with you long after you see it...
